The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles. The ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution’s humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti. It also runs regional specialist units that provide support and expertise to the ICRC’s delegations in Africa.

The Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking for; an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of;

VEHICLE DISPTACH OFFICER
(Open to Kenyan Nationals only)

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure all motor vehicles comply with statutory requirements and according to ICRC guidelines ;
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, up to date information of ICRC vehicles;
  • Update vehicle status, drivers assignments and destination information daily and monitor vehicle maintenance schedule for cleaning and service;
  • Scheduling of the vehicles and assigning duties to drivers:
  • Maintain and manage the transport system key performance indicators consisting of safety records, mileage travelled against the amount of fuel consumed ;
  • Manage the fleet of vehicles to ensure zero accidents both on the roads and parking yard, fuel efficiency and proper truck general maintenance
  • Oversee the fleet dispatch, coordinate vehicle utilization, monitor location and movement of the fleet:
  • Accomplish tasks while consistently focusing on client satisfaction, cost effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Maintain constant communication with drivers, administration and client service staff;
  • Responsible for drivers accountability and adherence to ICRC standards and policies:
  • Moderate employee hours to maintain appropriate staffing levels and manage overtime;

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree or higher national diploma in mechanical / automotive engineering or a diploma in fleet management / transport studies from a recognized institution;
  • Full clean driving licence of not less than 5 years’ experience;
  • Minimum of 2 year experience in fleet management;
  • Possess defensive driving skills ;
  • Highly motivated individual with the desire to make a difference;
  • Leadership experience with excellent communication and influential skills;
  • Very good computer skills (Word, Excel, Databases) and ability to use VHF / HF radio
  • Ability to manage stressful or unusual situations in order to maintain good client service;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example to motivate, develop and direct people;
