(a) Terms of Employment

The succesful candidates will be engaged on  Permanent and Pensionable terms

(b) Job Specifications

The central role of the Lecturers is teaching & Supervision, reearch& innovation, and Community Outreach. The key duties and responsibilities entail:

  1. Lecturing in area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
  2. Coordinating course projects and practical work;
  3. Preparing teaching/learning materials;
  4. Setting, invigilating and marking examinations/assignments;
  5. Carrying out research work in relevant field or specialization;
  6. Preparing students progress reports;
  7. Developing proposals for research funding;
  8. Writing journal articles and books;
  9. Presenting academic papers in conferences/seminars/workshops or symposia;
  10. Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula; and
  11. Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.
  12. Undertake consultancies with local and international organizations within areas of expertise to enhance the image of the University;
  13. Establish collaborative linkages and networks through communication, collaboration and participation for resource mobilization for the University;
  14. Present research findings and innovations to international conferences in order to increase the visibility of the University and to influence international policy environment for improvement of life;
  15. Engage with local and international stakeholders to establish linkages and networks in order to work together for the betterment of communities in various ways such as research and innovations;
  16. Execute budgets for student field trips for academic exposure and the application of theory;

(b) Job Specifications

The Technical staff are responsible for coordination of technical activities in the department to enable students acquire practical skills by ensuring that all practical sessions are done as scheduled.  

Key duties and responsibilities entail assisting in:

  1. Maintaining an updated inventory of consumables and non-consumables to ensure resources needed are well captured and accounted for.
  2. Ensuring that the laboratory equipment and reagents are maintained at good levels for the smooth learning throughout the year.
  • Ensuring that the materials required in the laboratory requested at the right time through the senior technologist.
  1. Maintaining the laboratory equipment and records hence facilitating the training of the student attendance during practical sessions by the relevant lectures.
  2. Providing a conducive and safe working environment in the laboratory in conformity with the stipulated Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  3. Assisting in conducting practicals in relevant disciplines.
  • Carrying out any other duties as assigned by the Principal Technologist.

The key duties and responsibilities entail assisting in:

  1. Handling students’ issues concerning their social life by offering guidance and counselling in order to correct their undesirable behaviors.
  2. Conducting guidance and counselling sessions in order to address arising social issues such as misuse of drugs as a preventive measure and stopping further addiction to drugs.
  • Organizing talks for students in areas already identified as need areas through sourcing for relevant speakers to address and offer public lectures to students so as to equip them with the relevant knowledge and information for more informed decisions.
  1. Maintaining consistent follow-up with the students in order to see to it that the positive change in behavior obtained is sustained and factors that would lead to re-occurrence of the helped issue are dealt with.
  2. Referring students who require specific attention to the appropriate service provider such as drug addicts who require rehabilitation services so as to exhaustively assist the students recover from the maladjustment.
  3. Providing spiritual guidance to students

(c) Person Specification

For appointment to this grade, one must:

  1. Must possess Bachelor Degree in Counselling, Social Sciences, Education or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. Be a member of a counsellors’ body such as Kenya Counselors and Psychologists Association or Kenya Universities Psychologists and Counsellors Association.
  3. Have professional/discipline specific knowledge of theory and techniques in a specialized field, or knowledge of a number of fields acquired through tertiary education and /or considerable experience.

(b) Job Specifications

The Officer will report to the Director Facilities Manageent and Administration  and will be responsible for management of Estates, Housing and Maintenance of University infrastructure.

The Key duties and responsibilities entail:

  1. Coordinating electrical/civil/mechanical works maintenance works in buildings in order to prevent power failure in the University.
  2. Coordinating maintenance of equipment and plants to facilitate efficient utilization of both materials and labor in the University.
  • Designing electrical/civil/mechanical works drawings for buildings and plants in order to facilitate installation of electricity in the buildings.
  1. Ensuring maintenance of street lights in the University to provide adequate lighting in the institution for a safe environment.
  2. Preparing bill of quantities to help estimate the materials to be used in maintenance and repair works across the institution.

c) Persons specifications

For appointment to this grade, one must:

  1. Possess a Master’s Degree in Project Management, Public Administration, Business Management, and Economics or any other relevant field from an accredited and recognized University.
  2. Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering from an accredited and recognized University.
  • Have at least eight (8) years’ relevant work experience with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  1. Be a full member of a professional body in construction management or its equivalent.
  2. Be computer proficient.
  3. Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.
