The County Government of Nyandarua invites applications from qualified and competent individuals to serve as Municipal Board Members for Mairo-Inya (2 Posts)Engineer (2 Posts), and Ol’Kalou (3 Posts) Municipalities.

These positions offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the governance, planning, and development of municipalities in Nyandarua County, ensuring improved service delivery, infrastructure development, and sustainable urban management.

Requirements for Appointment

To qualify, applicants must:

  1. Hold at least a diploma from a recognized institution in Kenya.
  2. Possess a distinguished career in a medium-level management position in the public or private sector.
  3. Have a minimum of five years of post-qualification professional experience.
  4. Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
  5. Be ordinarily resident in the municipality or have a permanent dwelling there.
  6. Carry out business in the municipality or have lived there for at least five years.

Roles and Responsibilities of Municipal Board Members

As a Municipal Board Member, you will play a vital role in overseeing the development and administration of the municipality. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Policy Development and Oversight:
    • Oversee the affairs of the municipality.
    • Develop, adopt, and implement policies, strategies, and programs for service delivery.
  2. Integrated Planning and Development:
    • Formulate and implement integrated development plans.
    • Control land subdivision, development, and zoning for residential, commercial, and industrial purposes.
  3. Infrastructure and Service Management:
    • Promote and undertake infrastructural development within the municipality.
    • Develop and manage schemes in compliance with national and county legislation.
  4. Administrative Functions:
    • Maintain a comprehensive database and information system.
    • Administer and regulate internal municipal affairs.
    • Implement applicable national and county legislation.
  5. Financial Oversight:
    • Monitor and regulate municipal services provided by external providers.
    • Prepare and submit annual budget estimates for approval by the County Assembly.
    • Collect rates, taxes, levies, duties, fees, and surcharges as delegated by the County Government.
  6. Performance Monitoring and Regulation:
    • Establish and monitor performance management systems.
    • Assess the impact and effectiveness of policies, programs, and services.
  7. Environmental and Safety Management:
    • Promote a safe and healthy environment within the municipality.
    • Facilitate and regulate public transport.
  8. Partnerships and Contracts:
    • Enter into partnerships, contracts, or joint ventures necessary for service delivery.
