Job Summary:
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is seeking an intern to support the implementation and promotion of the New Urban Agenda (NUA). This internship is located in Nairobi at the UN-Habitat headquarters, under the Urban Practices Branch, specifically within the Policy, Legislation and Governance Section (PLGS). The intern will work closely with professionals on initiatives that align with sustainable urban development and global development agendas, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities.
Key Responsibilities:
The intern will assist in policy research, analysis, data collection, and report writing related to urban governance, legislation, and planning. They may support knowledge-sharing platforms, contribute to drafting concept notes or presentations, and engage in event organization. Responsibilities also include supporting the follow-up and review processes of the NUA and assisting with communications, outreach, and engagement strategies.
Requirements:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have recently completed graduate-level studies in urban planning, public policy, social sciences, or a related field. Strong communication, research, and organizational skills are required. Familiarity with urban governance issues and international development frameworks is desirable. Proficiency in English is essential; knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
