Internship Description
As an Intern in Programme Management Support, you will be assigned to the Programme Division at UN-Habitat’s headquarters in Nairobi. You will work under the direct supervision of professional staff and will gain exposure to UN-Habitat’s operations, programme planning, coordination, and implementation processes.
This internship is designed to provide practical experience and insight into programme management in a large international organization. The selected intern will contribute to a wide range of activities and support project development, monitoring, documentation, and communications.
Duties and Responsibilities
As part of the Programme Management Support Team, the intern will be expected to:
- Support Programme Planning and Coordination
- Assist in the coordination of programme and project activities across various units and thematic areas.
- Contribute to the preparation and updating of workplans, timelines, and implementation schedules.
- Assist in Project Monitoring and Reporting
- Support the tracking of project progress using internal monitoring tools.
- Compile and analyze data for the preparation of internal and external reports.
- Contribute to Documentation and Knowledge Management
- Draft and edit programme documents, briefing notes, meeting summaries, and internal memos.
- Organize and maintain digital files, knowledge repositories, and shared documentation systems.
- Facilitate Internal Communications
- Support the organization of virtual and in-person meetings, workshops, and team briefings.
- Draft meeting agendas, prepare background materials, and assist in documenting outcomes.
- Research and Data Analysis
- Conduct background research on thematic urban issues, policies, and relevant stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Assist in the synthesis and visualization of data to support decision-making processes.
- Support Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Liaise with focal points across thematic branches, regions, and external partners for coordinated programme delivery.
- Contribute to inter-divisional project reviews and strategy development exercises.
- Assist in Proposal Development
- Support the drafting of concept notes, project proposals, and donor submissions.
- Assist in aligning new project initiatives with UN-Habitat’s Strategic Plan and global development frameworks.
- Contribute to Evaluation and Learning
- Assist in the collection of feedback and lessons learned from ongoing initiatives.
- Contribute to evaluation summaries and knowledge products for dissemination
