The Ministry of Education, through the State Department for Basic Education, is pleased to announce the recruitment of 1,000 interns under the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) Cohort 4. This initiative aims to equip primary schools across the country with digital skills support, enhance ICT integration in teaching and learning, and promote digital literacy in basic education. Successful candidates will be deployed to schools at the Sub County Level and will be instrumental in the delivery of digital content and virtual learning support in primary education.

This internship opportunity is ideal for ICT and Education graduates who are passionate about advancing digital education in Kenya and are seeking to gain practical experience in the implementation of digital learning initiatives. The selected interns will receive practical exposure in various ICT-related activities, while supporting the development and implementation of digital learning content and strategies in primary schools.

Overview of the Internship Programme

The internship positions are located in various Sub County Education Offices countrywide. The selected interns will work under the supervision of field education officers and school-based staff in public primary schools. The engagement is on a full-time basis and provides an excellent platform for professional development in digital learning.

The programme is designed to ensure that interns:

  • Gain hands-on experience in supporting digital learning infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and teaching staff in delivering digital education.
  • Support the implementation of the Digital Literacy Programme.
  • Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced officers within the Ministry.

This is a government initiative aligned with Kenya Vision 2030, aiming to foster a technology-savvy youth population prepared for the knowledge-based economy.

Duration of Internship

The internship will run for a continuous period of twelve (12) months and will not be renewable.

Stipend

Interns will be paid a stipend by the State Department, at a rate determined by the Government of Kenya.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the internship programme, the interns will be awarded a certificate by the State Department for Basic Education. This certificate will serve as official documentation of the experience and skills acquired during the internship period.

Eligibility and Requirements for Appointment

To be considered for this internship opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Educational Qualification
    • Must be a graduate (not earlier than the year 2020) from a recognized institution with a Bachelor’s degree in Education specializing in:
      • Information Communication Technology (ICT),
      • Or a Bachelor’s degree in ICT,
      • Or a Diploma in ICT or ICT Integration in Education.
  2. Knowledge and Competencies
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in:
      • Networking and infrastructure,
      • Applications development,
      • Information security,
      • Project management.
    • Capability to integrate ICT with Education, particularly in E-learning and content development.
    • Requisite skills to carry out research and innovation in support of the Digital Literacy Programme.
    • Commitment to serve in a Sub County Education Office on a full-time basis for the entire duration of the internship.
  3. Additional Attributes
    • Ability to work independently and in teams.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Willingness to be deployed to remote and underserved Sub County offices.
    • Strong ethical standards and integrity.

Internship Duties and Responsibilities

Interns selected for the programme will be expected to undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

i. Supporting E-learning and digital content development in alignment with the curriculum and approved schemes of work.
ii. Providing technical support to primary school teachers in the use of digital literacy devices and ICT tools.
iii. Assisting in the implementation of the Digital Literacy Programme across schools within the assigned Sub County.
iv. Facilitating the integration of ICT tools and devices into classroom teaching and learning processes.
v. Providing innovative solutions and strategies to improve digital learning environments and platforms.
vi. Ensuring that ICT resources are used safely, securely, and effectively by learners and teaching staff.
vii. Guiding teachers in the use of ICT for assessment, teaching aids, and academic records management.
viii. Supporting the development and review of ICT-related school policies, procedures, and guidelines.
ix. Offering technical assistance in the setup and maintenance of digital devices and ICT infrastructure in schools.

This role is vital in driving Kenya’s agenda for integrating ICT into basic education. The interns will not only acquire technical skills but also learn to work in diverse educational settings and support capacity building among primary school educators.

Deployment Details

  • Successful candidates will be assigned to various Sub County Education Offices, from where they will support public primary schools.
  • The deployment will be determined by the Ministry of Education based on need and distribution of resources.
  • Candidates should be flexible and ready to be posted anywhere in the country, especially in underserved and rural areas.
