The Teachers Service Commission spearheaded the implementation of the SchoolBased Teacher Support System (SBTSS) initiative under the Secondary Education
Quality Improvement Project (SEQIP), which was implemented from 2017 to 2024. The
intervention aimed at enhancing proficiency in pedagogical practices and mastery of the
content for teachers of Science, Mathematics, and English in secondary education.
Based on the success of SEQIP, particularly the SBTSS component, SBTSS has been
extended to Junior schools and Diploma Secondary Teachers Training Colleges
(DSTTCs) under the Secondary Education Equity and Quality Improvement Programme
(SEEQIP). The SBTSS initiative will be implemented in all 47 counties including camp
based schools in refugee camps in Garissa and Turkana.
