As part of our commitment to academic excellence and quality healthcare delivery, we are seeking a Full-time Faculty Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our Department of Surgery in Nairobi, Kenya.
Job Summary
The Cardiothoracic Surgeon will play a vital role in the Department of Surgery, contributing to education, research, and clinical service delivery. The selected candidate will oversee and coordinate high-quality educational programs, support research initiatives, and provide specialized clinical services in line with the departmental practice plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents during their rotations, implementing and monitoring educational programs to ensure achievement of desired outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and administration of examinations, ensuring that residents and interns receive formative assessments.
- Promote and facilitate research among residents, actively participating in scholarly activities, including clinical and educational research.
- Support residents in publishing their research work in reputable medical journals.
- Provide high-quality clinical services, both for in-patients and out-patients, as per the predetermined service structure.
- Develop and manage clinical services in areas of specialization and attend to emergency cases as required.
- Prepare and maintain a schedule of regular clinical teaching activities, ensuring alignment with academic and departmental objectives.
Requirements
- Master of Medicine in Cardiothoracic Surgery or an equivalent qualification.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ & Dentists Council as a specialist.
- A minimum of three years of clinical experience at a reputable medical institution.
- Minimum academic position of Senior Instructor.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership roles within medical education and clinical practice.
