About the Job:

The Reward Partner is part of the SSA centres of expertise teams reports to the Regional HR Director and works with different business leaders across the region. The role holder needs to operate on both a strategic policy and tactical implementation level.

Role purpose:

The post holder will be responsible for developing and managing total reward for regionally engaged staff in British Council SSA region within corporate guidelines and which supports business objectives. Co-ordinate with Reward and Mobility teams in the UK to advise regional HR teams on expatriate Reward management.

The opportunity: 

The Reward Partner is expected to make a major contribution to the successful management of HR as well as providing vital support to all operational team members. In conjunction with the Regional HR Director, the Reward Partner will be key in ensuring Reward services in SSA are consistent with global centre of expertise strategies, guiding principles, policies and procedures, processes and practices, and where necessary, adapting them to reflect local market needs and conditions, e.g. legal, regulatory, social and culture frameworks.

Main Accountabilities:

Leadership, influencing and strategy

  • Work closely with other CoE leaders to contribute to HR strategy and to implement and deliver Reward services in line with HR strategic priorities, ensuring global consistency and regional policy alignment
  • Drive continuous improvement in the British Council’s delivery of reward services (processes, policies, guidance and advice) including in-house and outsourced providers
  • Input to the engagement strategy through the employee value proposition in order to achieve high levels of engagement and the link with business performance
  • Take lead on maintaining key relationships at both country and regional level whilst working in partnership with Local Staff Associations, recognised trade unions, legal counsel, internal legal and compliance, in terms of the reward agenda and strategy.
Reward

  • Ensure robust salary and benefits benchmarking across all markets to ensure informed decisions on pay reviews continue to be made. Support and assist country HR managers in advising Country Directors in developing pay strategies and proposals
  • Partner with Country HR and management teams and the English SBU to ensure our teacher remuneration offer remains affordable and yet competitive in the talent market
  • Lead on Implementation of the job evaluation framework across SSA and use the information to provide advice and guidance on revisions that suit the specific needs of the workforce. Ensure that records are maintained on the SharePoint site as required corporately
  • Advise HR staff and recruiting managers on salaries and packages for candidates selected in recruitment.
  • Ensure reward is aligned with talent and succession strategies.
  • Define, monitor and maintain Reward policy, including the criteria for awarding pay increases in the Region, in line with global Reward policy
  • Ensure pay and rewards policies and practices meet British Council Equality, Diversity and Inclusion standards.
  • Manage relationships with HR consultancies specialising in pay, rewards, and benefits.
  • Coach managers in any aspect of pay, reward and benefits
  • Manage Reward KPIs for SSA region, ensuring accurate data collation
Projects

  • Develop HR capability in the understanding and application of reward policies and practices to ensure consistency and manage risk.
  • Participate actively in the Reward community of practice across the British Council, building global capability, sharing learning and bringing best practice from other organisations.
  • Build and maintain a network of Reward specialists in the relevant sector to gain insight into regional best practices, and build off of these insights to shape regional Reward Strategy
  • Manage SSA regional Terms & Conditions review and countries alignment
  • Participate in other aspects of HR as agreed from time to time on a project basis.
  • Be a visible role model for the British Council’s values and behaviours.
