ACCOUNTANT- JUMUIA HOTEL KISUMU

Ensure sound financial management and provision of financial reports and ensure optimal level of accounting and financial controls.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Finance and Accounting

  1. Maintain and update books of accounts and prepare the trial balance
  2. Supervise the Cashier and other Accounts staff
  3. Prepare monthly financial reports, management reports, and other financial statements
  4. Prepare the Centre budgets and budgetary control variance analysis reports
  5. Prepare cash flow forecasts
  6. Follow up with creditors and debtors accounts regularly and report to management
  7. Maintain the fixed assets register
  8. Reconcile and manage the current account with the Head Office and the VAT control account
  9. Liaise with external auditors, prepare audit schedules and financial statements for audit purposes
  10. Advise management on cash management and short-term investments
  11. Ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements
  12. Coordinate periodic review of the cost of services provided by the Resort
  13. Monitor and report to the management the resorts financial performance regularly
  14. Ensure sound internal controls.

Purchases and Supplies

  1. Ensure effective stock management and stock reconciliations
  2. Control purchasing activities including purchasing requisition, quotations and originating the LPO, and liaise with the department on the position of delayed purchasing requisitions
  3. Produce monthly purchasing report as designed by the manager

Payroll management

  1. Prepare the Resorts personnel budget for approval by the Council Committees
  2. Prepare monthly payroll input data and verify payroll transactions
  3. Ensure proper administration of regulatory and staff benefit schemes

Others

  1. Attend any social and promotional gathering that the Manager holds
  2. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the management from time to time

JOB SPECIFICATION AND OTHER INFORMATION RELATED TO THE JOB

Level of Education/Academic Qualification

  • At least Form IV – KCSE or equivalent.
  • Bachelor of Commerce – Finance/Accounting Option

Specialised Training/Professional Qualifications

  • CPA Finalist

Relevant Job Experience

  • At least two years’ experience in a similar position in the hospitality industry.

Other Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required

  • High-level analytical and accounting skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Should be conversant with industrial/labour regulations
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in computerized accounting system.
