Position: Head of Social Media
Job Details
- Ownership and responsibility of the content and engagement strategy for Manchester United’s social channels, including: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn
- Content Roadmap and posting strategy, considering content pillars, localisation and creating daily habits for fans.
- Ownership of growth KPIs across Social, and responsible for innovation and launch of new Social products and platforms to stimulate growth.
- Management of agencies and resources which look after foreign language accounts such as Weibo, WeChat, Line and Douyin.
- Management of the Social Media team, including the rota and rostering team members and freelancers on match day and unsociable hours shifts. Co-located across Old Trafford (stadium) and AON Training Complex (training ground).
- Generate, edit, publish and approve engaging daily content.
- Management of key senior relationships with Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
- Content ideas, creative thinking and invention of native content ‘franchises’ to engage fans on network.
- Responsible for driving value back to the club channels and departments, such as the club’s website (traffic), app (downloads), retail and ticketing.
- Lean in and assist with the club’s paid social marketing efforts.
- Working with other club departments so they can maximise value from our Social Media channels; Commercial, Ticketing, Retail, Foundation and Football.
- Assisting players and player agents with content and strategy.
- Deep understanding of analytics and an ability to implement an analytical culture within the team.
- Benchmarking and researching Social Media trends so we can be ahead of the curve.
- Minimum Bachelors Degree or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience running large branded social channel(s), preferably within the Sports industry.
- Vast knowledge of Western Social Media platforms, as well as knowledge of market specific social channels, for example like those in China, Japan and Thailand.
- Excellent Copywriting skills and attention to detail.
- Solid knowledge of analytical tools, scheduling tools, and paid social marketing.
- Experience working with CRM, SEO and Analytics teams, and using Social to drive value back to the business.
- Knowledge of Online Marketing channels and growth techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Manchester United is currently recruiting individuals to join our Matchday Operations team for the football season to enhance the Matchday experience for the our 76,000 fans and guests we entertain here at Old Trafford for every home game.
There are approximately 35 matches during the season, which kicks off in August, and successful candidates for our Matchday roles would be expected to be available for our key home games held throughout the season.
