Terms of Reference for Provision of Rapporteuring Services and Development of Reports during the 17th CSO Forum on African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (CSO Forum) virtual and physical engagement with children on the 21st of November 2020

1.0. About EACRN

The Eastern Africa Child Rights Network of Civil Society Organizations (EACRN) was established in March 2014 to coordinate efforts by civil society organizations in Eastern Africa in advocating for children’s rights. Presently, the network’s membership constitutes national Child Rights Coalitions from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and Ethiopia. The mandate of this network is to implement programmes and conduct advocacy that is focused on the realization of Children rights as contained in the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (UNCRC).

The CSO Forum on the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) (hereinafter, the CSO Forum) was established in 2009 to provide a Platform for African child-focused CSOs to engage the ACERWC. The Forum is held twice a year, before the sessions of the ACERWC bringing together CSOs working on the rights and welfare of children across Africa, key child rights experts and African Union representatives.  EACRN co-hosts the CSO Forum jointly with CRNSA and seeks to engage the services of a highly qualified person to rapporteur during the Children session on the 21st of November 2020.

2.0 Objective

The overall objective of this consultancy is to develop well-written conference reports based on the discussions of children during the 17th CSO Forum on African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) virtual and physical engagement with children on the 21st of November 2020. The rapporteur will be required to have their own internet access and other gadgets necessary for the development of the reports.

3.0 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Previous experience in report writing a plus.
  • Sound understanding of Child safeguarding
  • Availability on short notice.

4.0 Deliverables

Quality reports that will contain at a minimum the following sections: introduction, background, discussion, recommendations and conclusion. The report should contain the number of participants taking into account gender and age.

5.0 Duration of work

This work will be undertaken within 1 day during the Forum held on the 21st of November 2020. Compilation and submission of the final report will be within five (5) working days of the Forum.

6.0 Reporting and Payment

The successful candidate will report to the EACRN Coordinator during the period of assignment. Payment will be done upon submission of the final report.
