Job Title: Director – Governance and Philanthropy

Reports To: Executive Director


Overall Job Purpose

This is a senior management position reporting to the Executive Director and works very closely with other team members. If you are the one we are looking for, you will play a leading role in;

  1. Advancing KCDF’s push for a vibrant, credible, and sustainable civil society sector while promoting stronger community voices;
  2. Building responsive and accountable governance structures and processes at the national and county level;
  3. Promoting KCDF’s policy in advocacy and influencing, efficiently linking and collaborating with key departments to support capacity building in this area;
  4. Strengthening KCDF work in promoting local organized giving /philanthropy, enhance grassroots-led policy, and other national civic engagement initiatives.

To qualify for consideration for this role you will possess:

  1. A Master’s university degree in Development Studies or any other relevant area of specialization;
  2. Eight (8) years’ experience in the development sector, out of which at least five (5) years will have been spent progressively in policy, advocacy, governance and philanthropy space;
  3. Knowledge and familiarity with the Kenyan CSO sector, its growth, challenges, opportunities, and legal frameworks that govern its operations;
  4. Excellent analytical and policy articulation skills, communication, writing, public speaking, influencing and collaboration skills;
  5. Strong leadership and management skills with demonstrated experience in working with and growing teams.

You will work with other like-minded stakeholders in supporting an enabling legal environment for CSO’s and communities to secure more equitable access to services for the poor and other excluded groups. You will leverage on different national, regional, and global networks to learn, share, and advocate KCDF’s collective agenda in promoting philanthropy while strengthening National and regional philanthropy infrastructure.
You will support capacity development-related activities for KCDF’s partners and other local actors in diverse areas of organizational development (e.g. programme management, resource mobilization, board development, communications and sustainability planning etc.)
