TERMS OF REFERENCE  FOR COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Reporting to: Communications Officer

Duration: 6 months

Duty Station: Nairobi

The Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) is a non-governmental, non-profit and member-based organisation registered as a society. ICJ Kenya’s vision is a just, inclusive, and equitable society where everyone lives in dignity. Our mission is to promote human rights, democratic governance, justice, and the rule of law in Africa.

ICJ Kenya is actively looking for a dynamic and highly motivated Communications Intern, on a full-time basis, for six months to assist its highly motivated Communications team. The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Description

The Communications Intern will assist with various communications tasks across a range of channels. S/he will report and work closely with the Communications Officer to innovatively raise ICJ Kenya’s visibility and create online content to suit a broad range of audiences.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Creatively design communications products (including quarterly newsletters, annual & mid-year reports, communiques, statements) while consistently applying ICJ Kenya branding guidelines.
  2. Edit videos for ICJ Kenya social media and the website (including interviews, human interest stories, etc.)
  3. Assist in creating, layout, and designing IEC materials (brochure, infographics).
  4. Support planning, producing, and tracking internal and external communications materials and events.
  5. Engage daily and assist with content creation for website social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
  6. Assist with compiling data and preparing bimonthly digital communications and media visibility newsletter.
  7. Assist the communications team in the organisation of internal communications tools and databases.
  8. Assist with communications training and other ad hoc events.
  9. Assist with preparing news conferences and media outreach to launch publications, reports, and releases.

Skills/Competencies

  1. Working knowledge of Adobe suite, especially Illustrator and InDesign, are essential requirements. Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects are highly desirable.
  2. Possess excellent communication and writing skills.
  3. Ability to grasp ideas quickly, propose solutions, and work with minimum supervision.
  4. Self Motivated and driven with a keen interest to learn resourceful attitude, and team player.
  5. Have a passion for human rights, social justice, and the rule of law.
  6. Can work under pressure in a dynamic and intense environment.
