ICRISAT is seeking applications from a dynamic and highly innovative Associate Manager to work with multi-disciplinary team comprising scientist from various disciplines to enhance the host plant resistance in rice. The position is required to work on rice pathology under One Rice breeding strategy of IRRI and to provide support towards managing OneIRRI network. 

This position will provide high-quality system support to end-users. He/she will also be involved in testing and collaborations with counterparts in the whole CGIAR. He/she will also participate in CG-wide workgroups related to Excellence in Breeding projects.

IRRI aims to improve livelihoods and nutrition, abolishing poverty, hunger, and malnutrition among those who depend on rice-based agri-food systems. In doing so, IRRI’s work protects the health of rice farmers and consumers, and the environmental sustainability of rice farming in a world challenged by climate change. Purpose of the Position:

The associate manager (AM) will be a member of the service provider team supporting data management, client reporting and problem resolution. The hired person’s responsibility is to conduct the data management activities on the Enterprise Breeding System (EBS), including the collation, validation, encoding, spot-checking and quality assurance testing, archiving and curation ensuring compliance to IRRI and Platform-specific policies, procedures and guidelines on data management, back up and uploading.

Key Responsibilities:

1.1.   Timely delivery of set objectives: Helpdesk support and Training of EBS

●       Provide support to users from CGIAR centers using Enterprise Breeding System

●       Maintain, update, monitor, and train users of EBS for compliance

●       Assist users in the creation of experiments (trials and nurseries) in terms of guidance, data curation and recording in the EBS system

●       Advise users on the SOPs relating to experiments, including experiment protocols, and Data collection activities

●       Primary contact for training

         Organize, plan, and execute training for various user types

1.2. SOP authoring and compliance monitoring. Take part in creating CGIAR-level Data Management policies

●       Write review and implement protocols for data management

●       Write review guides and manuals for EBS and tools related

         Monitor SOP compliance and rollout

1.3. Internal Process: Improved quality and efficiency of performance related to the product, services, or other key business processes

●       Retrieve, and update information based on requests

●       To act on all inquiries within 3 working days

         Request and/or generate printed materials for compliance

1.4. Customer/Stakeholder: Improved performance from the perspective of the customer or key stakeholders

a. Establishment of data management support to global partners in South Asia region

b. Formalize the online support for data management

●       Provides technical advice on data management on EBS-enabled processes

●       Provide training on the use of EBS database and tools to both local and global

●       Serve as one key support for the Data management team (online and onsite)

Lead on developing the suitable training plan for each type of learner

1.5. Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) Development and Data management activities (local and global users)

●       Testing and providing feedback regarding EBS modules and tools

●       Assist in developing a process diagram for EBS developers to be used as guide in developing EBS modules and tools

●       Roll-out of new releases including information dissemination (email), information sessions and conduct training if needed.

●       Collaborate to complete digitization projects to IRRI and global hubs

         Contribute in developing e-learning materials, such as videos, infographics, LMS

1.6. Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time

Responsibilities:

  • The role is to co-coordinate the biotic stress screening network (BioNet) in collaboration with IRRI-HQ, regional team, and CG-NARES partners.
  • Provide support towards managing OneIRRI network (conduct screening of advanced breeding lines of different market segments, which covers seven pipelines mapped to India under different maturity groups early-medium-late), for prevalent diseases and pests under stage-1 and stage-2.
  • Co-coordinate closely with the IRRI HQ team (BioNet), project partners, other NARES collaborators, to ensure smooth flow of research activities, and screening of germplasm.
  • Provide support in the research on host plant resistance to major and emerging diseases with IRRI-HQ leads
  • Provide strategic and technical support to IRRI-SA Hub resistance breeding program.
  • Assist in high quality research on rice pathology for identification of donors, QTLs, disease monitoring and gene deployment strategy
  • Collection and characterization of rice pathogens
  • Assisting in implementation of other plant pathology projects running at the IRRI-SA Hub, Hyderabad
  • Capacity building of NARES partners for diseases screening on emerging diseases
  • Supervise and mentor the team of researchers and supporting staff for the proper execution of research programs.
  • Development and writing of new proposal on rice diseases for India
  • Write and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals and support timely submission of reports to donor

Qualifications and Experience: 

· PhD in Plant Pathology/Botany/Genetics/Breeding or other relevant discipline with 4 years of post-PhD experience on major and emerging diseases of rice in research institute/university

·  Strong understanding in rice pathology particularly related to disease resistance, host pathogen interaction, pathogen characterization and protocol optimization for emerging diseases of rice

·      Proven technological proficiency in conducting diseases screening trials and multilocation/hotspot testing

Desirable

·       Experience in working on major and emerging diseases of rice

·       Experience in writing and managing grants

·       Respectable publication record, as evidenced by research papers in referred journals

Objective :

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial research to standardise the antibody and its suitability and sensitivity in lateral flow device (LFD)
  • Standardise sample extraction method for animal feeds that is suitable for LFD
  • Produce LFD prototype
  • Evaluate animal feed samples to validate LFD
  • Overall development of LFD for aflatoxin B1 detection
  • Reporting and maintaining accurate and high-quality data files required to prepare project report

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post Graduate degree with 2 to 4 years of relevant experience or Ph.D. in Immunochemistry/ Immunology or Biochemistry;
  • Experience in immunology specially focusing on developing lateral flow immunoassays is desirable;
  • Additional skills: Previous experience in developing immune-assays and lateral flow immunoassays will be added advantage;

Technical Competencies/ Key Skills:

  • Technical competencies to work on immune-assays and lateral flow immune-assays with special focus on mycotoxins such as aflatoxins, fumonisins, ochratoxins etc.

Responsibilities:

  1. Represent ICRISAT in the West and Central Africa (WCA) region  through liaison with governments, national networks and authorities, organizations and initiatives

The Transport Supervisor will report to Manager, Security & Transport Services and seek advice wherever required. To update progress on issues/matters assigned by the Manager, Security and Transport Services.

Primary Function:

·         Support Manager, Security & Transport in the smooth running of the transport unit.

·         Make sure all the transport vehicles are properly maintained.

·         Inspecting vehicles on regular basis.
