JOB SUMMARY

EPN is an International non-profit Christian member organization registered in Kenya. Its mission is to support Churches and Church Health Systems, provide and promote just and compassionate quality pharmaceutical services. EPN is a global church-based organization that works specifically to increase access to medicines and to strengthen pharmaceutical services. The beneficiaries of EPN’s services include church health institution, medicines policy makers, health professionals, church leaders, and health staff involved in medicines management and pharmaceutical service delivery.

The Ecumenical Pharmaceutical Network is looking for a Programme Assistant AMR Project Lead to assist the Programme Officer and play the lead role in planning and implementing the AMR projects funded by Novartis.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  1. Work with implementing partners in Kenya (CHAK), Malawi (CHAM) and Nigeria (CHAK) to implement the following activities for the project:
    • – Develop and customize the AMR training on EPN’s Learning Management System (LMS) for Medical Staff of the target members in the specified countries
    • – Develop short training on AMR assessment on the LMS
    • – Support the Training of Health Facility staff (pharmacy staff and clinicians) in good prescribing, dispensing and rational use of antibiotics, Management of medicine supply with a focus on antibiotics, and implementation of national IPC guidelines in the Health Facilities for adequate monitoring of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs).
    • – Facilitate an AMR assessment of 50 Prescriptions per facility from 2022 and again 50 prescriptions from 2023 after the AMR training and formation of committees.
    • – Promote and support implementation of DTC & IPC Committees in the beneficiaries’ hospital as well AMR stewardship action plans in Health Facilities to assist with antibiotic selection for common clinical conditions
    • – Facilitate and/or be part of 2 formative and mentoring supervisory visits in each facility.
    • – Ensure the development and distribution of patient-centered IEC Materials on AMR
    • – Ensure that at least 10 to 20 medicine tests per month using the minilab with a focus on antibiotics.
    • – Ensure the Collection and distribution of results of minilab tests to raise awareness on the threat of falsified and substandard medicines.
    • – Support sensitivity testing (postage to government laboratories/ testing costs) in Malawi and Nigeria.
    • – Ensure there are Established waste collection points in the facilities in at least one country and negotiate waste collection and transferal to Government entity with DSO and Pharmacy and Poisons board.
    • – Assist in the Development of radio broadcasts and social media campaign on the risk of AMR with focus on dangers through improper waste disposal. And advertise for the collection points established.
  2. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities according to applicable timeframes and formats.
  3. Ensure maximum efficiency and delivery in project implementation as well as undertake regular participatory monitoring and verification visits to ensure adequate progress against action plans, outputs whilst ensuring that quality elements are signed off.
  4. Overall responsibility and management of the Project budget and ensure project reporting conforms to donor rules and regulations
  5. Contribute to the development of the EPN annual reports (reports, stories photos and interviews), in liaison with the Communications Officer.
  6. Perform any other duties as instructed by the Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  1. Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm – Registered Pharmacist)
  2. Min 5 years’ relevant experience in Project Management
  3. Strong experience in technical writing, ideally with experience in a health-related field.
  4. Ability to work independently and as a team.
  5. Ability to multi-task, with tight deadlines/schedules and attention to detail.
  6. Excellent relationship management, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with proven ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with a wide range of multi-disciplinary stakeholders, including medicines manufacturers and suppliers.
  7. Proven effective communication skills in English, both in written and orally. Proficiency in French writing/speaking would be an added advantage
  8. Skills in Microsoft Office/Google, email, and Internet navigation are required. Experience in LMS management would be an added advantage.
  9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  10. Willingness to undertake international travels.
