About the position
The Climate Action research area of the Alliance Bioversity-CIAT is searching for a highly skilled Full Stack Developer to join our team in Nairobi with experience in both front-end and back-end coding languages and frameworks.
The candidate will contribute to design, development and maintenance of scalable web-based platforms to disseminate output from agro-climate modeling exercises.
The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers working on developing data science driven solutions for agricultural development in the developing countries.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out the design, development, adjustment, and maintenance of information management and dissemination platforms to be used by wide range of stakeholders, including the CGIAR Research community, NARS and farmer-facing organizations.
- Build the front-end interface following user-center design principles.
- Develop APIs for data access to support end-user data access.
- Work with data architects and scientists to build and manage databases.
- Conduct regular bug fixing and carry out performance enhancements.
- Generate technical documentation and data reports.
- Identify and implement software engineering process improvements.
- Provide technical support to different groups of users.
- Attend regular meetings through the project cycle to assist the team.
- Participate in the design, documentation, and creation of scalable and secure software.
- Breakdown of large-scale requirements into smaller ones oriented to user stories/technical tasks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Proven work experience as a Full Stack Developer for at least 2 years
- Proficient in both front-end and back-end languages, frameworks, and databases, such as: angular, react, Python, node JS, MySQL, MS SQL, Mongo
- Experience implementing Web Services (REST API), authentication, CI/CD life-cycles and pipelines.
- Experience building software in cloud environments, AWS, cloud-based solution implementation and maintenance and service-oriented architecture.
- Experience facing user stories to address the end-user requirements.
- Experience working with Git and GitHub
- Analytical and assertive communication skills
- Excellent communication skills in English
Benefits
This is a national recruited (NRS) position placed at a BG6, in a scale of 14 levels, with level 14 being the highest.
This is a Kenya national search and will be managed through a fixed term contract of a one (1) year period, subject to probation period of three (3) months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
