Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our legal team. The Senior Legal Counsel will play a crucial role in providing legal advice, guidance, and support to the organization. This position requires a deep understanding of various legal matters, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Key deliverables

Legal Advisory:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to the organization on a wide range of legal issues, including but not limited to contracts, employment law, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Providing support in corporate financing engagements

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess legal risks in business operations and propose strategies to mitigate such risks.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and implement risk management policies and procedures.

Compliance:

  • Stay abreast of changes in relevant laws and regulations to ensure the organization’s compliance.
  • Develop and deliver legal training programs to employees to enhance awareness of legal issues.
  • Attending regulatory/industry meeting

Dispute Resolution:

  • Manage and resolve legal disputes, including coordinating with external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Represent the organization in legal proceedings and negotiations.

Corporate Governance:

  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements and maintain corporate records.
  • Provide support for board meetings and governance matters.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and provide legal support aligned with organizational goals.
  • Work closely with external legal counsel when required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 5 years post qualification experience
  • Registration as a Certified Secretary will be an added advantage
  • Strong knowledge of financial services and legal best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-house legal experience.
  • Experience working in the financial services sector
  • Additional certifications or specialized training in relevant legal areas.
