Primary Purpose and Scope the Job

Overall Purpose of the Job:

  • Assist in implementing an ESH Management System appropriate to JAVA HOUSE AFRICA.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Assist in ensuring all accidents and incidents are recorded, investigated and appropriate corrective & preventive actions are taken based on the findings.
  • Assisting in internal inspection and auditing (first aid kits, fire safety appliances and risk assessment) and following up on implementing the recommendations and closure of gaps identified.
  •  Coordinate Safety and Health committee meetings, Contractor management audits as per schedule, follow up on closure of action raised.
  • Assist in ensuring all EHS documentation and records are maintained up to date and communicated to all staff.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing current EHS policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and related EHS documentations.
  • Developing suitable EHS training materials and conducting internal EHS Induction and training in line with Java house ESH Policies and Procedures and training records maintained.
  • Help perform contractor compliance monitoring to meet company ESH policies and procedures.
  • Timely Provision of EHS reports for following on closure progress of corrective action log, accidents, PPE needs requirements etc.
  • Performing any other duties allocated.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Accidents and incidents at work
  • ESH trainings; induction and awareness
  • Internal ESH audits and inspection

Key Result Areas/ Key Performance Indicators (5-6 areas)

1) 100% induction for new staff and continuous Trainings and awareness all staff.

2) A 5 % reduction per year of the volume of waste to landfill by increasing recycling.

3) Timely completion of internal audits and inspections and closure of corrective action.

4) Accurate recording and investigation of accidents with adequate root cause aiming at reducing accidents occurrence.

5) Health and safety meeting held as per work plans.

Performance Indicators (3-5 indicators)

  • Accident recording and minimization of these numbers and increased safety observations.
  • Training and awareness done on ESH for all staff.
  • Number of audits done, and closed corrective actions closed.
  • Volume of waste reduced and amount recycled.
  • Updated EHS documentations on policies and procedures.

Job specifications:

Qualifications

1. Degree/ Diploma in Environmental Science or equivalent

2. Relevant trainings in Occupational Health and safety is an added advantage

Experience

1 – 2 years’ experience in a similar role

Core COMPETENCIES

1. An understanding of NEMA, DOSHS and County government guidelines

2. Understating of Kenya Environmental, health and Safety legislations

3. Basic knowledge on Risk Assessment and hazard identifications process

4. Basic knowledge of Accident Investigation procedures
