How To Curate Your Resume/CV

You have the skills

But no professional work experience

How can you curate your Resume/CV?

Now when creating your resume without any professional work experience, you have to focus on these 5 things;

  • Your Skills
  • Your Education
  • Your Personal Projects
  • Internships (If any)
  • Volunteer work (If any)
  • Any relevant extracurricular activities
  • Any Recognition or Award
  • References

~ Tip 1:

First, we have different format for resume but we will focus on one

  • Chronological Resume
  • Functional Resume
  • Combination Resume
  • Targeted Resume
  • Infographic Resume
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

For someone with limited or zero professional work experience, you’ll have to choose the functional or combination resume format

This will be more suitable because it focuses more on skills and accomplishments rather than a chronological work history

~ Tip 2:

Create A Compelling Summary Or Objective Statement:

When you’re creating your professional summary, your goal is to make it concise highlighting your skills, education, and career goals and also tailor it to the specific Jon or industry

Writing a compelling summary is a topic on its own so I won’t get more in-depth

~ Tip 3:

Emphasize Your Education:

You have to include your educational background prominently on your resume

List your degree, major, educational institution, and graduation date

If you have a high GPA, mention it as well.

~ Tip 4:

Highlight Your Relevant Coursework, Projects Or Online Courses:

Coursework means academic assignments, projects, and assessments that students complete as part of their studies in a particular course or subject

If you completed coursework or projects that are relevant to the job you’re applying for, include a section dedicated to showcasing these experiences

Highlight any practical skills, research, or achievements gained during these projects.

~ Tip 5:

Showcase Internships, Part-time Work, Or Volunteer Experiences:

If you’ve been involved in any internship or voluntary work that is “Relevant to the Position”

You have to include it and focus on the skills, responsibilities, and accomplishments from these experiences that are relevant to the job you’re targeting

~ Tip 6:

Highlight Your Skills:

Create a dedicated skills section where you list both hard and soft skills that are relevant to the job

Hard skills include technical skills, software proficiency, languages, etc.

Soft skills include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, etc.

Be specific and provide examples of how you’ve used these skills

~ Tip 7:

Include Relevant Projects Or Personal Initiatives:

If you have worked on personal projects, such as building a website, creating software, creating a discord, running a successful ads etc., include them in a separate section

Describe your role, the skills utilized, and the outcomes or impact achieved

~ Tip 8:

  • Customize Your Resume For Each Application
  • Use A Clean And Organized Design
  • Proofread and Edit (This is very important)
