Project officer Needed At CHAK

The job holder is responsible for planning and implementation of the Africa Clear Sight Partnership project activities with the goal of increasing awareness and education on presbyopia, the associated risk factors and effects on quality of life with the aim of alleviating the near-vision-associated visual impairment. The position holder will undertake frequent visit to project hubs (PCEA Kikuyu Hospital, Sabatia Eye Hospital and AIC Lokichogio Health Centre) and project spokes. 

Key responsibilities and duties

  1. Ensure alignment of project strategies and interventions to best practices, lessons learnt and in line with eye health guidelines.
  2. Capacity building of primary health care workers and community health promoters on awareness and education and screening for presbyopia. 
  3. Provide technical assistance to support community health promoters to conduct awareness and education on presbyopia.
  4. Support screening events and offer free corrective reading glasses through community outreaches and in primary care facilities (spokes).
  5. Provide onsite mentorship and support supervision within the project hubs, spokes and to community health promoters to ensure good quality of care in eye services.
  6. Support advocacy initiatives in collaboration with other stakeholders in eye health to ensure responsive eye care frameworks.
  7. Foster partnership and collaboration with the donor, Ministry of Health, County Health Management Teams, Kenya Coalition for Clear Vision, and other stakeholders. 
  8. Participate in development of the project work plan, oversee activity implementation and compile project reports and outcomes, as necessary.
  9. Represent CHAK in county level technical working groups and stakeholder meetings in relation to eye health services.
  10. Participate in proposal development.

Person specifications
Academic and professional qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science, Clinical or Public Health Discipline
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine/Nursing
  • Hold a certificate of registration from a relevant professional council
  • Hold a valid practice license from a relevant professional council

Work experience
Five years relevant experience with one year at supervisory level.
