I. JOB TITLE

Consultant for Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects

II. TASKS

In 1989, the Government of Japan introduced Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP) in order to respond to the diverse development needs in less developed countries. The Consultant appointed by the Embassy of Japan in Kenya (herein after referred to as “the Embassy”) is subject to serve the below tasks in Kenya and Somalia. 1. General Tasks

  1. to receiving and administer applications, including correspondence to inquiries, data management related to applications;
  2. to review application including cost evaluation and technical review;
  3. to facilitate implementation of the projects;
  4. to administer the past projects and the projects under implementation;
  5. to contact and consult with applicants and GGP partner organizations;
  6. to prepare reports; and
  7. to fulfill such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Embassy and any other Embassy staff appointed by the Embassy.

2. Specific Tasks

  1. to study the proposals (credibility of the applicants, activities, financial status, validity of project components/sites/prices and feasibility of the project;
  2. to monitor the projects under implementation, including status of construction/procurement, coordination with GGP partners and documentation;
  3. to follow up past projects, including report on utilization and management of the facilities/equipment, audit status and effects of the projects;
  4. to assist organizing the ceremonies (i.e. ceremony for grant contract signature, inauguration ceremony); and
  5. to collect relevant information related to the Embassy’s economic cooperation program.

III. POSITIONS AVAILABLE

TWO (persons who have NOT a Japanese nationality and live in Nairobi during his/her duty)

IV. TYPE OF CONTRACT

Consultancy contract (NOT employment contract)

V. CONTRACT PERIOD

From mid June 2024 to 31st March, 2025 (renewable up to maximum 3 years based on an agreement between the Embassy and the Consultant)

VI. REQUIREMENTS

1. Minimum requirement

  1. Diploma in a relevant field; and
  2. Excellent command of English

2. Desired skills and abilities

  1. Excellent skills in project management (i.e. communication, coordination and reporting);
  2. Technical knowledge and/or working experience in the fields of architecture or civil engineering;
  3. Good command of Kiswahili or Japanese; and
  4. Excellent knowledge in using Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) 

VII. TREATMENT

Contract fee will be paid every month by the Embassy (the amount shall be determined on the basis of certain criteria considering applicant’s abilities, work experience etc.) Any allowance including transportation, housing, insurance etc. will NOT be paid. Privileges and immunities as a member of diplomat mission shall NOT be applied.

VIII. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  1. Curriculum Vitae attached an applicant’s photograph;
  2. Final academic certificate;
  3. Other relevant qualification documents;
  4. Letter(s) of recommendation;
  5. Copy of Identification Card; and
  6. Certificate of Good Conduct.
