Overall Purpose of the Job

As a Business Development Officer, your primary responsibility will be to manage and execute effective sales and marketing strategies that drive the achievement of revenue targets. This role requires a professional who can effectively acquire new business, manage teams, and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.


Key Responsibilities

As a Business Development Officer, you will be responsible for the following:

  1. Business Acquisition and Sales Goals
    • Procure and solicit business to meet and exceed premium targets.
    • Focus on retail, SME, and general insurance (GI) through intermediaries and personal sales.
  2. Intermediary Management
    • Recruit, train, and motivate intermediaries to achieve assigned budgets.
    • Support intermediaries in service meetings with clients to address queries and provide timely feedback.
  3. Business Planning and Development
    • Develop and implement solid business plans and strategies for acquiring new clients and retaining existing ones.
    • Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, including clients and intermediaries.
  4. Regulatory Compliance
    • Adhere to applicable laws, Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) guidelines, and market conduct standards.
    • Obtain and maintain all necessary licenses, including IRA certification.
    • Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.
  5. Client Management
    • Maintain confidentiality of client information and ensure accurate client data is conveyed to the company.
    • Collect and verify client KYC documents.
  6. Brand Promotion
    • Uphold and promote the company’s image and brand in all interactions.
    • Organize and participate in company-approved engagements and activations.
  7. Performance Monitoring
    • Continuously monitor the effectiveness of the integrated sales and marketing strategies, suggesting and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  8. Ethical Standards and Conduct
    • Avoid disclosing confidential company or client information without authorization.
    • Ensure no monetary collections are made directly from clients to the unit manager.
    • Adhere to the company’s code of conduct for unit managers.

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

To excel in this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a Diploma in Insurance, Certificate of Proficiency (COP), or any other professional qualification in insurance.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years of practical experience in sales, marketing, or business relationship management with a proven performance track record, preferably in the insurance industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in team management, sales, and business development.
  • Strong understanding of insurance regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to coach, motivate, and assess performance effectively.
