Position: Laboratory Technologist
Location: Eldoret Centre
Reports to: Centre Manager
Probation Period: 3 months

Key Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all laboratory services are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Laboratory Testing and Reporting
- Perform routine and complex analytical tests on human body fluids and tissues.
- Adhere to laboratory standard operating procedures and maintain daily quality assurance protocols.
- Correlate clinical information with test results and report discrepancies to supervisors or clinicians.
- Ensure accurate documentation of observations and test results.
2. Equipment Maintenance and Stock Management
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshooting issues and arranging for repairs as needed.
- Manage laboratory stock, ensuring proper storage and disposal of biohazard materials.
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
3. Data Collection and Quality Assurance
- Collect and evaluate quality management data to improve laboratory performance.
- Write and update laboratory procedures as required by quality assurance teams.
- Ensure proper documentation of client data and maintain confidentiality in all situations.
4. Client and Team Support
- Provide clear, accurate information and counseling to clients regarding their test results.
- Work closely with healthcare team members to ensure optimal client care and timely service delivery.
- Participate in educational workshops and professional development to maintain technical knowledge.
5. Compliance and Professional Conduct
- Adhere to all organizational goals, objectives, and regulatory standards.
- Ensure all relevant practicing licenses are up to date and on record.
- Protect patients and staff by following infection control policies and organizational protocols.
Skills and Expertise
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Expertise in clinical laboratory tests, including bacteriology, immunohematology, chemistry, hematology, parasitology, serology, and urinalysis.
- Strong knowledge of quality control protocols and infection prevention.
- Excellent communication and customer-focused service delivery skills.
- IT literacy with proficiency in MS Office tools.
