We are currently seeking a Process Operator to join our dynamic team at Equator Bottlers Limited in Kisumu, Kenya. This is a permanent position that offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a team that values quality, innovation, and teamwork.


Key Purpose Statement

The Process Operator ensures the safe operation of the process area, adherence to work instructions, execution of quality checks, and implementation of autonomous maintenance. The role focuses on maintaining high standards of quality control and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

Operation and Process Control

  • Operate within the process area according to work instructions and usage standards.
  • Perform quality checks as per the quality control and analysis procedures.
  • Record waste on appropriate documentation or systems and analyze waste trends to identify issues or opportunities promptly.
  • Review process performance against targets and complete all required documentation for short interval control.
  • Resolve out-of-control situations quickly and effectively.
  • Respond rapidly to upstream or downstream issues causing stoppages, applying problem-solving techniques as needed.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks, adhering to 5S principles and safe work practices.
  • Identify and correct unsafe work practices.
  • Carry out flavor and size changeovers as per work instructions.
  • Support fellow team members in completing their tasks.

Maintenance of Plant and Equipment

  • Conduct deep cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of machines per work instructions and maintenance schedules.
  • Perform autonomous maintenance activities and adhere to maintenance schedules.
  • Execute breakdown maintenance tasks as required.
  • Assist the process artisan in maintenance tasks during shifts.

Quality Control and Analysis

  • Conduct quality checks and analysis according to quality procedures.
  • Record quality check results in relevant documentation or systems.
  • Calibrate quality control equipment as required, seeking assistance from the core lab when necessary.
  • Analyze quality data trends to identify issues or opportunities for improvement.
  • Address identified quality problems using appropriate techniques.

Communication

  • Communicate effectively within the workplace and actively participate in shift meetings by asking questions and contributing suggestions.
  • Use gap lists to record issues, problems, and improvement opportunities.
  • Understand team goals and participate in team goal review sessions.
  • Utilize relevant communication tools, such as shift handover books, to stay informed and keep others informed.

Problem Solving

  • Apply situational problem-solving techniques, such as 5Why analysis and quick fix routines, to resolve issues.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to team leaders or process artisans as necessary.
  • Provide information and participate in both situational and systemic problem-solving processes.
  • Verify that resolved problems have been eliminated.

Continuous Improvement

  • Use control charts, trend analysis, and other tools to identify sources of waste and process variation.
  • Analyze short-stop data and Pareto charts to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Record improvement opportunities on the team gap list and engage team members to evaluate and address them.
  • Involve specialist resources when necessary to drive improvements.

Skills, Experience & Education

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the FMCG industry.

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of packaging operations and process controls.
  • Proficiency in quality control practices and principles.
  • Familiarity with bottling principles and processes.
  • Knowledge of product handling and SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) policies and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills and understanding of WCM (World Class Manufacturing) foundational practices.
