Job Description
As a General Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, compliance with tax regulations, and efficient cash management. You will support the Finance Manager and work closely with internal teams to implement effective internal controls, manage accounts payable and receivable, and assist with audits.
Key Responsibilities
1. Bank Reconciliations
- Prepare daily and monthly bank reconciliations to ensure financial records align with bank statements.
- Identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
2. Internal Controls and Compliance
- Assist in implementing robust internal controls across financial and administrative processes.
- Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, including preparing and filing tax returns such as WHT and VAT.
3. Financial Reporting
- Generate accurate and comprehensive financial reports monthly.
- Provide actionable insights to the Finance Manager for resource optimization.
4. Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Manage accounts payable, including processing bill payments, petty cash, and vouchers.
- Handle accounts receivable to ensure timely cash collections and proper recording.
5. Audit Support
- Collaborate with auditors during year-end audits by preparing required documents and materials.
6. Cash Management
- Perform day-to-day cash management tasks, including initiating and tracking payments.
- Ensure timely execution of special tasks, including urgent payments.
7. Filing and Organization
- Maintain an organized and efficient filing system for financial documents and records.
Requirements
To excel in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional Certification: CPA or ACCA certification is mandatory.
- Experience: 3-5 years of proven experience in accounting, preferably in the financial services or product financing sector.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms. Advanced Excel skills are essential.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of tax regulations and statutory compliance in Kenya.
- Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact with various stakeholders effectively.
