What You’ll Do

As Integrity Counsel, you will support IFC’s business teams in addressing integrity risks across investment and advisory projects in East Africa. You will provide legal expertise, manage risk mitigation strategies, and advise on compliance with anti-corruption laws, economic sanctions, and other regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Integrity Risk Management
    • Evaluate integrity and reputational risks, propose recommendations, and implement mitigation strategies for IFC’s transactions, clients, and partners.
    • Develop expertise in regional due diligence issues across industries, providing tailored solutions.
    • Advise on compliance with international and national anti-corruption laws, such as FCPA and UK Bribery Act.
  2. Legal Advisory
    • Provide guidance on economic sanctions, export controls, and crisis management in portfolio projects.
    • Advise on contractual provisions, including drafting and reviewing integrity-related clauses in legal agreements.
    • Support new initiatives and products by embedding integrity-related provisions.
  3. Portfolio and Crisis Management
    • Manage crisis situations, including legal advice on complex integrity issues and litigation risks.
    • Draft disclosures for board papers and manage stakeholder communication.
  4. Training and Collaboration
    • Develop and execute training programs to raise awareness of integrity risks among IFC staff and management.
    • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including multilateral development banks and due diligence firms.
    • Represent IFC in conferences and forums, presenting on integrity-related topics.
  5. Corporate Initiatives
    • Contribute to initiatives targeting Fragile and Conflict States (FCS), ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
    • Support the development of innovative solutions to complex compliance challenges.

What You’ll Bring

  • Education and Experience:
    • Juris Doctorate (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in international business transactions, project finance, or litigation, with a focus on integrity-related matters such as anti-corruption, AML/CFT, and economic sanctions.
    • Prior experience in East Africa or similar regions, with in-depth knowledge of local business and regulatory landscapes.
  • Skills and Expertise:
    • Proven ability to handle crisis situations and manage integrity risks effectively.
    • Strong understanding of international best practices and regional trends in integrity management.
    • Experience supporting the design, implementation, and oversight of investment projects.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and clients confidently.
    • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with a track record of delivering under pressure.
