The Council of Governors (CoG) is a vital institution established under Section 19 of the Intergovernmental Relations Act 2012. It plays a key role in facilitating consultation among County Governments, sharing information on county performance, building capacity for Governors, and addressing national and county interests through reports from intergovernmental forums (Section 20). To effectively fulfill its mandate and vision, the Council is structured into various sectoral working committees and departments.

The Council of Governors is now offering an exciting internship opportunity in the Human Resources and Administration Department. This internship is a chance to gain hands-on experience in HR and administrative functions while contributing to the effective execution of the Council’s mandate.


Internship Opportunity: Human Resource and Administration Intern

Scope of Assignments: As an intern in the HR and Administration Department, you will support the department’s day-to-day operations and assist with administrative and HR functions. Your specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the daily operations of HR and administrative functions.
  • Providing clerical and administrative support in the Human Resources Unit.
  • Processing documentation and preparing reports related to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensuring easy access to HR Committee updates, reports, and bills while maintaining updated information for relevant parties.
  • Compiling committee minutes and reports, and summarizing outputs from meetings.
  • Assisting with tasks related to the Human Resource, Labour, and Social Welfare Committee.
  • Convening and taking minutes during Human Resource, Labour, and Social Welfare Committee meetings.
  • Offering guidance on records management best practices.
  • Handling mail receipt, sorting, and filing correspondences according to CoG’s indexing plan.
  • Conducting weekly file tracing for action officers and recording file status.
  • Dispatching mail while maintaining a secure tracing register.
  • Welcoming and greeting guests, visitors, staff, and the public visiting the Council.
  • Responding to inquiries from guests and making appropriate referrals as necessary.
  • Operating the telephone switchboard, answering and redirecting incoming calls, and addressing inquiries appropriately.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Supervision:

The intern will report to and be supervised by the Head of Human Resource in the Human Resource and Administration Department.

Duration of Internship: The internship will run for a period of six (6) months.


Qualifications and Requirements:

To qualify for this exciting opportunity, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource and Administration.
  • Have a certificate in Computer Applications.
  • Be experienced in conducting comprehensive research.
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines, maintain accuracy, and exhibit attention to detail.
  • Be highly computer literate and proficient in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
  • Show the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
