Safala Building Systems if looking for a for Steel Detailing Checker to join his Design Team. The ideal candidate must demonstrate competency in quality control by ensuring that details on drawings are accurate, complete, and in compliance with design specifications, project requirements, and industry standards and take action/escalate for quick attention.
The Steel Detailing Checker plays a crucial role in quality control by ensuring that all details on all drawings are accurate, complete, and in compliance with design specifications, project requirements, and industry standards. They are responsible for reviewing, verifying, and correcting the models and drawings created by other detailers for quality assurance, collaborating with the relevant stakeholders, and maintaining organized records of all drawings/models including revisions.
- Key responsibilities:
A. Drawing Review and Verification
- Thoroughly check and verify all detailed Engineering Drawings (General arrangement drawings, shop drawings/fabrication drawings, and installation drawings) prepared by detailers.
- Verify dimensions, material specifications, connection details, and other critical design elements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Check & Verify the accuracy of all fabrication/shop drawings and the corresponding material quantities
- Ensure all revisions on details are verified and accurately incorporated. B. Quality Assurance:
- Conduct systematic reviews to verify that all detailing outputs conform to design specifications.
- Verify compliance with relevant codes of practice, standards and project-specific requirements.
- Identify and flag any discrepancies, missing information, or errors in drawings or specifications and collaborate with detailers to promptly resolve any identified issues.
- Work with the team to ensure high levels of accuracy and consistency of details across all drawings.
- Communicate feedback and suggestions for improvement to enhance the quality assurance process.
C. Project Coordination:
- Collaborate closely with Design Engineers, Detailers, Site Engineers and Projects Manager to understand project specifications and requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of checks and revisions for reference and auditing purposes.
- Provide support to the detailers to ensure completion of required drawings in a timely manner for overall excellence.
D. Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Maintain records of checked drawings.
- Ensure proper documentation of all revisions and modifications.
- Generate and maintain checklists, reports, and logs for all verified drawings to support internal audits and client reviews.
E. Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in reviews and audits to improve detailing standards and reduce errors
- Contribute to training sessions for detailers, focusing on common errors and best practices for accuracy.
- Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and best practices.
Requirements
- Qualifications required:
- Minimum academic qualification: Degree in Civil/Structural Draughtsmanship from a credible institution.
- Qualifications as an added advantage: Higher Diploma in Civil /Structural Engineering
- Professional registration: EBK/IEK
- Experience required:
- General work experience (years): 5-8 years experience in detailing and/or checking Structural Steelwork drawings in a steel fabrication company.
- Specific to the position (level/discipline/years): 2-3 years as a Detailing Checker of Structural Steel Buildings including Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings using TEKLA & AutoCAD.
