Job Objective

The Assistant Director, Development & Investment will lead and manage fundraising activities related to investment partnerships and business development initiatives. The role includes developing investment opportunities, cultivating relationships with investors, and organizing impactful fundraising events to support KCA University’s financial sustainability and mission-driven objectives.


Duties and Responsibilities

Investment Partner Development

  • Identify and research potential investment partners, including individual investors, venture capitalists, impact investors, and philanthropic funds.
  • Develop investment proposals, pitch decks, and business plans to attract investment capital for KCAU’s programs and initiatives.
  • Analyze potential investment opportunities to ensure alignment with the University’s mission and financial objectives.

Donor Relations and Engagement

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors, providing regular updates, reports, and opportunities for engagement.
  • Build and maintain a donor database, ensuring compliance with data protection laws while tracking donor interactions, preferences, and history.
  • Develop and implement personalized stewardship strategies to deepen donor engagement and support.

Strategic Collaboration

  • Work closely with programmatic and financial teams to align investment opportunities with KCAU’s priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute investment strategies aligned with the University’s goals.
  • Oversee the preparation of funding proposals, grant applications, and fundraising materials that reflect the University’s mission and vision.

Fundraising and Event Management

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, market outreach, and strategic partnerships.
  • Develop a robust pipeline of potential clients, investors, and partners.
  • Represent KCAU at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to promote investment opportunities and fundraising initiatives.
  • Organize and oversee fundraising events that engage investors and promote KCAU’s initiatives.

Financial and Performance Management

  • Prepare regular reports on fundraising performance, revenue projections, and return on investment for stakeholders.
  • Conduct due diligence and financial analysis to evaluate and recommend investment opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with financial reporting and disclosure requirements, as well as other relevant regulations and ethical standards.

Knowledge Sharing and Team Development

  • Stay informed about trends in fundraising, investment strategies, and nonprofit financial management, sharing best practices with the team.
  • Encourage and support the resource mobilization team in participating in professional development opportunities.
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members to enhance their fundraising and donor relations skills.

Other Duties

  • Champion the University’s mission and values in all fundraising and investment activities.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Executive Director.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, finance, investment management, project management, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or related roles, with a focus on donor engagement and stewardship.
  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CFRE) will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of fundraising principles, investment strategies, and event management best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to engage and inspire donors, investors, and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities with a track record of executing successful fundraising initiatives.
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Project management skills to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively.
  • Knowledge of fundraising tools, donor databases, CRM systems, and online fundraising platforms.
  • Commitment to KCAU’s mission and values, with a passion for making a positive impact on the community.
