About the LIFT Northern Kenya Project
The LIFT Northern Kenya project is a climate-adapted initiative leveraging BOMA’s Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) model to provide sustainable, market-driven solutions for vulnerable groups. This initiative supports women, youth, and refugees in launching green enterprises, ensuring economic inclusion while promoting environmental conservation. The project will be implemented over three years across Marsabit, Samburu, and Turkana counties, as well as Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Settlements.
BOMA will lead this project in collaboration with Danish Church Aid (DCA) and Smart Regional Consultants (SRC) to facilitate competitive and profitable green enterprises in these communities.
Job Position: Field Officer, LIFT NK – Turkana

Key Responsibilities
As a Field Officer, you will play a pivotal role in the implementation of the REAP – LIFT Programme, ensuring effective program execution and participant success. Your main responsibilities will include:
Programme Implementation Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate program activities executed by Mentors, including grant distributions and training sessions, with support from the Program Manager.
- Identify and target eligible households for the REAP – LIFT Programme using participatory methodologies and adapted participant selection tools, including sustainable business screening guidelines.
- Work with Locational Committees to orient them on the REAP – LIFT Programme and collaborate on the selection and implementation processes.
- Support the formation of business groups and facilitate community-based market assessments or boot camps to help participants identify viable, environmentally sustainable business opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Markets and Linkages Officer to strengthen market linkages, facilitate value chain development, and register savings groups with social services.
- Support REAP – LIFT businesses in accessing financial institutions and market networks.
- Facilitate savings associations, guiding business groups to deposit savings and create credit access opportunities for long-term business growth.
- Provide training on business skills, green entrepreneurship, climate-smart technologies, and climate change adaptation.
Recruitment and Training Responsibilities
- Assist in the recruitment process for Mentor positions, working closely with the People Department.
- Support onboarding processes for new employees, ensuring smooth integration into the BOMA team.
- Identify training needs for Mentors and coordinate relevant capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with the People and Training Departments.
- Conduct exit interviews and manage offboarding processes, including mentor clearance procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Community Development, Social Sciences, Business Management, Project Management, or a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience for Degree holders and at least five (5) years of experience for Diploma holders in a similar role within Northern Kenya.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate field activities effectively.
- Strong people management and mentorship skills.
- Proven competency in data collection and basic analysis.
- Self-driven, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent report writing and computer skills.
- Proficiency in English, Kiswahili, and the local dialects of the support counties.
