Position: Vice-Chancellor
Number of Positions: One (1)
Salary Range: Ksh 474,920 – Ksh 629,400 per month
House Allowance: Ksh 80,000 per month
Leave Allowance: As per the university’s provisions
Medical Cover & Other Allowances: As per the university’s policies
Terms of Service: Five-year contract, renewable once based on performance
Qualifications & Requirements
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Academic and Professional Qualifications:
- Must be a full professor with at least three (3) years of experience at this academic rank.
- Must hold an earned doctorate from a recognized university.
- Experience:
- At least ten (10) years of experience in senior management positions within a large university or equivalent institution.
- Demonstrable success in academic leadership and administration.
- Previous service as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Principal of a constituent college, Dean of a School/Faculty, or Chairman of a Department.
- Experience as a Director of a university campus or center will be an added advantage.
- Research and Academic Contributions:
- A distinguished scholar with a proven track record in formulating academic programs, attracting research grants, supervising postgraduate students, and publishing in high-impact journals.
- Strong contribution to university development through partnerships and resource mobilization.
- Knowledge & Competencies:
- In-depth understanding of university education policies and regulatory frameworks in Kenya.
- Familiarity with public finance management, procurement procedures, and strategic human resource management.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism.
- Ability to promote teamwork and stewardship of public resources.
- Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, which includes integrity and accountability requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities
As the Chief Executive Officer of Kenyatta University, the Vice-Chancellor will have the following key responsibilities:
- Academic, Administrative, and Financial Leadership:
- Serve as the academic, administrative, and financial head of the university.
- Ensure the university maintains and enhances its academic reputation.
- Promote efficiency and accountability in all university operations.
- University Governance & Policy Implementation:
- Oversee the direction, organization, and management of university programs.
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the University Council and chair the Senate and University Management Board.
- Ensure compliance with university statutes and regulatory frameworks.
- Financial Management & Resource Mobilization:
- Act as the accounting officer responsible for financial planning and resource allocation.
- Lead efforts in securing research grants, partnerships, and other financial resources to support university development.
- Strategic Planning & Development:
- Formulate and implement strategic plans for academic and infrastructural development.
- Promote research, innovation, and community engagement initiatives.
- Public Relations & Institutional Image:
- Represent the university in national and international forums.
- Enhance the visibility of Kenyatta University through effective communication and branding.
- Foster relationships with government bodies, industry stakeholders, and alumni networks.
Expected Deliverables
