Salary Range: Ksh 45,000 – Ksh 55,000
Reports To: Head of Legal


Job Purpose

As a Legal Counsel, Conveyancing, you will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation in all real estate transactions. You will provide expert legal services in areas such as land acquisition, due diligence, conveyancing, procurement, hospitality, construction, ICT, and intellectual property. You will also represent the company in legal proceedings and offer guidance on emerging legal concerns.


Key Responsibilities

1. Property Transfers & Documentation

  • Manage and track property transfers at various land registries.
  • Oversee subdivision processes, ensuring timely completion and legal compliance.
  • Maintain organized and updated project files, including completion documents.
  • Ensure that titles for each project are prepared and readily available.
  • Work with the documentation team to secure clearances for title transfers to clients and company-owned project lands.
  • Assist in drafting lease agreements, letters of offer, and reviewing commercial contracts.
  • Conduct official property searches and due diligence before leasing or purchasing properties.
  • Review and verify the terms of conveyancing documents prepared by external legal representatives.
  • Provide legal advice on property transactions, documentation, and disposal procedures.

2. Legal Compliance & Advisory

  • Develop policies and standard operating procedures in alignment with legal regulations.
  • Keep division heads informed on market developments and government directives affecting real estate operations.
  • Ensure secure storage of title documents through the land clerk and legal administrator.

3. Litigation & Dispute Resolution

  • Respond to and manage court summons, pleadings, and demand letters.
  • Maintain a comprehensive litigation calendar, tracking ongoing cases and hearing dates.
  • Ensure skilled legal representation for all company-related legal proceedings.
  • Submit monthly litigation progress reports to the Group Directors.

4. Training & Capacity Building

  • Assess training needs within the legal portfolio.
  • Conduct and facilitate legal training sessions for relevant departments.
  • Provide expert guidance on compliance, legal risks, and industry regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from a recognized institution.
  • Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as in-house legal counsel in a corporate setting.
  • Hands-on experience in conveyancing, land registry procedures, and court rules.
  • Strong interpretation and application skills for legal texts, statutes, and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and confidentiality.
