Senior Accountant – Costing

Senior Accountant – Costing (Internal Advert)
Job Purpose:
Reporting to Manager, Management Accounts the holder of the position will deal with the following vital areas such as new program costing (including pricing), cost control, budget development, and providing crucial financial data to support management’s strategic planning efforts among others.
Key Responsibilities
- Benchmarking on all charges and making recommendations.
- Costing for new and existing programs.
- Analyzing and monitoring budget performance for all units and communicating variances with the budget holders at least once after every 2 months (i.e., twice a semester).
- Make recommendations for improvement in areas of inefficiencies.
- Analyzing levels of utilization of services/subscriptions and making recommendations.
- Assist with consolidating the annual budget.
- Assist Manager-Management Accounts with preparation of periodic management reports
- Assist with preparation of Draft consolidated annual budget for review by Manager-Management Accounts.
- Reallocation of shared costs with budget units.
- Allocate Overhead Costs to Departments – e.g., Telephone, Electricity, Staff Costs, Insurance, Transport.
- Effect approved departmental budget transfers in accordance with existing University policies.
- Prepare draft financial models for proposed University capital projects for review by Manager-Management Accounts.
- Creating approved new GL codes, opening of GL codes or posting upon approval among other GL related responses.
- Any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Educational/Professional Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance and CPA (K) / ACCA.
- Member in good standing of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Must have served as an accountant in busy Finance department for a minimum of 3 years.
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
