Purpose Statement

To ensure that high-quality standards are maintained in the provision of medication and medical consumables in accordance with Avenue Healthcare’s defined policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure that the pharmacy is equipped with all necessary medications and consumables and that all equipment is in good working condition.
  • Adhere to all insurance exclusion lists and ensure compliance with insurance policies.
  • Communicate with doctors regarding equivalent medications for out-of-stock or over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and follow up for collection.
  • Maintain sufficient stock levels, perform daily counts, conduct spot checks, and monthly stock takes, providing accurate reports with explanations for variances and expiries.
  • Prevent medication errors by verifying prescriptions and treatment sheets for doses, allergies, patient identification, correct drug usage, and legibility.
  • Dispense dangerous drugs and controlled substances in compliance with laid-down policies, ensuring weekly checks and immediate reporting of discrepancies.
  • Ensure fridge temperatures are monitored twice daily and report any anomalies to the relevant department.
  • Escalate any quality-related issues to the Pharmacy Superintendent or Business Manager.
  • Track and report on pharmacy quality indicators as required by the Pharmacy Superintendent.

Medication Expiry & Stock Management

  • Conduct monthly checks on shelf and emergency trolley medications, replacing short-expiry items and informing the Pharmacy Superintendent.
  • Implement FIFO/FEFO principles, using green stickers for short-expiry drugs and utilizing expiry reports to facilitate liquidation.
  • Document, quarantine, and report all expired drugs to the Pharmacy Superintendent for disposal as per the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) regulations.

Corporate Governance & Compliance

  • Adhere to Avenue Healthcare’s corporate governance policies.
  • Prevent, detect, and report any fraud or criminal activity.
  • Fully implement audit recommendations, ensuring satisfactory ratings in subsequent audits.
  • Record and report all incidents and events to the Business Manager within 24 hours using the appropriate reporting tools.
  • Maintain and enforce infection control standards when performing extemporaneous preparations.

Client Satisfaction & Confidentiality

  • Ensure client satisfaction through high-quality service, effective communication, and prompt feedback.
  • Address unresolved client issues, escalating to the appropriate personnel where necessary.
  • Utilize standardized tools for patient satisfaction feedback to measure and improve service delivery.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor in line with the job description.

Person Specification

  • Educational Background: A Diploma in Pharmacy.
  • Licensure: A valid Pharmaceutical Technologist license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Skills:

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
    • Demonstrated reliability and professionalism in pharmaceutical practice.
