Background
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to-policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development.
The Center is Africa-based and African-led, with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, and a West Africa Regional Office (WARO), in Dakar, Senegal. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.
Objective
APHRC seeks proposals from qualified firms to conduct avatar-based interviews. The goal is to expedite the collection and analysis of survey data and produce a comprehensive report on the findings.
Scope of Work
The selected firm will be responsible for:
- Developing Avatar-Based Interview Protocols:
- Designing and programming avatars to conduct semi-structured interviews.
- Ensuring avatars can simulate human interviewers effectively.
- Interview Execution:
- Conducting interviews with journal editors in Nigeria and Ethiopia using video avatars.
- Ensuring interviews cover all necessary questions to clarify issues identified in the initial survey.
- Data Management and Analysis:
- Collecting and securely storing interview data.
- Analyzing data to identify key themes and insights.
- Reporting:
- Preparing a detailed report summarizing the findings from the interviews.
- Highlighting key issues, constraints, and recommendations for improving journal visibility and functionality.
Deliverables
The selected firm will be expected to deliver:
- Avatar Interview Protocols:Detailed documentation of the interview protocols and avatar scripts.
- Interview Data:Raw and processed data from all conducted interviews.
- Final Report:A comprehensive report on the findings, including thematic analysis and actionable recommendations.
Duration and Timeline
The project is expected to take a maximum of two months from the date of contract signing. Key milestones include:
- Month 1:Development of interview protocols and avatar programming and conducting interviews and initial data analysis.
- Month 2:Final data analysis and report preparation.
Qualifications and Experience
The selected firm must demonstrate:
- Experience in developing and deploying video avatar technology for interviews.
- Expertise in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
- Previous work with research institutions or academic journals is preferred.
- Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Proposal Submission Requirements
Interested firms should submit a proposal that includes:
Technical Proposal:
- Methodology and approach for conducting avatar-based interviews.
- Detailed work plan and timeline.
- Team composition and roles, including CVs of key personnel.
- Examples of similar projects undertaken.
Financial Proposal:
- Detailed budget breakdown.
- Justification for costs.
Evaluation Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
- Technical Approach (40%):Feasibility, creativity, and clarity of the proposed methodology.
- Experience and Qualifications (30%):Relevant experience and qualifications of the firm and key personnel.
- Cost (20%):Reasonableness and justification of the budget.
- Timeline (10%):Ability to deliver within the specified timeframe.
