Introduction
The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) is seeking a Manager, Internal Audit, responsible for providing independent, objective assurance to improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. The role ensures compliance, enhances corporate governance, and strengthens internal controls to help the Board achieve its strategic objectives.
Reporting functionally to the Board Internal Audit Committee and administratively to the Registrar/CEO, this role requires a high level of integrity, professionalism, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Audit and Governance Leadership
- Provide secretariat services to the Audit Committee.
- Formulate and oversee the implementation of internal audit policies, strategies, and plans.
- Compile and issue internal audit reports with recommendations for improvements.
- Conduct special audits and investigations to identify risks and non-compliance issues.
- Establish and implement systems in accordance with auditing standards.
- Test and evaluate the efficacy of risk assessment systems.
- Monitor and report on the Board’s overall risk profile.
- Provide independent assurance on risk management processes, including design and operations.
- Assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and adequacy of risk controls.
Financial and Operational Oversight
- Review the correctness and accuracy of accounting reports.
- Ensure internal controls are well designed and effectively implemented.
- Oversee compliance with financial reporting, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Support departments in risk profiling and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Facilitate business continuity planning and risk management processes.
Strategic and Compliance Auditing
- Monitor legal and regulatory compliance.
- Review internal policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with governance best practices.
- Lead the preparation of risk control reports and efficiency analysis.
- Ensure adherence to Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Information Security Management Systems (ISMS).
- Manage and respond to customer complaints, compliments, and inquiries related to the Internal Audit Department.
Person Specifications
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (Finance and Accounting option), or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (Accounting/Finance) or a related discipline.
- Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K) or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Membership with ICPAK, Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), or ISACA (in good standing).
- Management course certification (minimum four weeks).
- Proficiency in IT systems and audit software.
- Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
Work Experience
- Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in public sector auditing is an added advantage.
- Strong leadership, risk management, and compliance expertise.
