We are currently seeking a local resident of Turkana County to fill the position of Assistant Project Officer – Peace Building DREAM UP Project in Kakuma and Kalobeyei.
Key Responsibilities
Peace Building Management:
- Lead the effective and timely implementation of peace-building activities in Kakuma and Kalobeyei within the allocated budget and implementation plan.
- Work in collaboration with the Project Manager and Project Officer – Livelihoods to provide operational and administrative support.
- Engage communities in peace-building initiatives to foster participation and long-term sustainability.
- Implement DREAM UP initiatives aimed at reducing intra- and inter-community conflicts between refugees and host communities in line with the Refugee Act, Peace Education Policy, and National Peace Building Policy.
- Sensitize and engage peace committees, communities, government agencies, school children, youth, and women groups in peace-building activities to ensure successful DREAM UP interventions.
Project Design, Implementation, Monitoring, and Reporting:
- Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of peace-building activities, ensuring community needs are addressed.
- Execute activities as per the Detailed Implementation Plan in consultation with the Project Manager.
- Generate and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual peace-building reports, detailing the progress and impact of the DREAM UP project.
Networking and Collaboration:
- Represent DREAM UP in Peace-Building Forums at the field level and establish strategic partnerships with stakeholders, agencies, and local leaders.
- Work closely with partner organizations, government agencies, and local leaders to ensure a coordinated approach in project implementation.
- Participate in relevant workshops, meetings, and forums, ensuring regular updates to the Project Manager.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
- Degree in Peace-Building, Sociology, International Relations, Conflict Studies, or related field.
- At least 2 years of field experience working with communities on peace-building programs with a focus on children.
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office Suite).
- Experience in working with communities in fragile contexts.
- Knowledge of humanitarian standards, including Sphere Standards, Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), NGO Code of Conduct, and Do No Harm (DNH) principles.
- Valid motorcycle riding license and ability to ride a motorcycle.
