We are currently seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Compliance Intern to join our team at Jubilee Asset Management Limited. This is an exciting opportunity for recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in risk and compliance within the financial services industry. The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Manager, Risk and Compliance and will be based at our Head Office in Nairobi.


Role Purpose

The Compliance Intern will assist in ensuring full compliance of the Asset Management Business with all applicable regulations, internal policies, and external laws governing the financial services industry. The role also involves identifying compliance risks, implementing risk-mitigation measures, and fostering a strong culture of ethical business conduct.


Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Monitoring

  • Assist in monitoring and ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and internal policies.
  • Conduct regular reviews to assess compliance with existing legislation, internal processes, and controls.
  • Support in the identification, assessment, and control of compliance risks.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting suspicious transactions to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) without tipping off.
  • Review company processes, operational manuals, and systems to ensure alignment with set regulations and policies.

Compliance Risk Assessment & Reporting

  • Assist in identifying compliance weaknesses and recommend remedial measures.
  • Follow up with stakeholders on the closure of identified compliance gaps.
  • Participate in governance audits and reviews to ensure that organizational policies are enforced.
  • Maintain and organize compliance documentation and records.

Corporate Governance & Ethical Standards

  • Assist in ensuring the company adheres to corporate governance best practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal control mechanisms.
  • Promote and uphold ethical standards, transparency, and accountability.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within compliance processes.

Organizational Culture & Compliance Awareness

  • Promote a culture of compliance across all levels of the organization.
  • Encourage open communication and reporting of compliance concerns.
  • Support risk awareness initiatives within the organization.
  • Foster a strong risk and control environment.

Key Competencies

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of relevant laws and compliance requirements.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to assess complex compliance issues and recommend solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: High accuracy in reviewing documents and identifying inconsistencies.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adjust to changing regulations and policies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Educational Background: A B.Sc. in Finance, Law, Business, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Work Experience: Previous internship or corporate experience in compliance, legal, or financial services is preferred. Exposure to regulatory compliance, corporate governance, or financial audits is an added advantage.
