BOMA is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Mentor for the newly awarded Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) Northern Kenya Project. This initiative aims to implement a climate crisis-adapted “green” version of BOMA’s Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) to uplift the lives of women, youth, and refugees through sustainable economic opportunities. The project will run for three years and will focus on Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana counties, and the Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Settlements. BOMA is the lead partner in this project, working in collaboration with Danish Church Aid (DCA) and Smart Regional Consultants (SRC).

Job Title: Mentor – LIFT NK (Turkana)
Responsibilities
- Manage the LIFT Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP), supporting participants in establishing businesses that improve their living conditions while promoting environmental conservation.
- Provide mentoring to small business enterprises under the REAP – LIFT Programme.
- Identify and select eligible women for the REAP – LIFT Programme using participatory tools such as the Participatory Wealth Ranking and Participatory Rural Appraisal Tools.
- Engage with Business Groups (BGs) regularly to offer mentorship, business guidance, and financial management support.
- Conduct and deliver business and savings skills training, including financial literacy for businesses in designated locations.
- Train and mentor Business Groups on green entrepreneurship, climate change adaptation, and climate-smart technologies.
- Support mentors in ensuring entrepreneurs thrive in production, trade, and value addition within green enterprises.
- Conduct a minimum number of weekly visits to business groups and savings groups under your mentorship.
- Collect and analyze data on business group performance, savings groups, participants’ living standards, climate change adaptation participation, and other relevant metrics.
- Upload high-quality data using BOMA’s Taroworks System for information management.
- Report on business and savings group performances to the Field Officer.
- Represent BOMA in the designated location and engage in local development committees as a representative of the organization.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, or a related discipline.
- At least two years of experience in a similar role.
- Proven experience in data collection and mentorship is an added advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with community members and BOMA Field Officers.
- Self-driven, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be a native of Turkana with proficiency in English, Swahili, and the local language.
- Strongly encouraged: Valid motorcycle license and experience riding a motorcycle (or willingness to obtain a license within three months of employment).
