1. Principal Internal Auditor – IHRM Grade 5

The Principal Internal Auditor will report to the Deputy Director, Internal Auditor. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of internal audit processes and maintaining a robust risk management framework.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifying assurance and consulting engagement objectives that align with the Institute’s values, strategies, and objectives.
  • Assessing governance, risk management, and control processes to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conducting substantive and compliance testing of accountable records and documents.
  • Reviewing audit reports for assigned engagements and providing recommendations.
  • Undertaking special audit assignments and investigations to detect material breaches in policy, procedures, and regulations.
  • Identifying, analyzing, evaluating, and documenting sufficient information to achieve audit engagement objectives.
  • Reviewing and ensuring quality control of audit work papers.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the Internal Audit budget and work plan.
  • Determining adequate and sufficient resources required for engagement objectives.
  • Preparing risk-based annual audit plans aligned with the Institute’s objectives.
  • Evaluating fraud risk and recommending appropriate management strategies.
  • Identifying and documenting opportunities for improving governance, risk management, and control processes.
  • Developing and documenting engagement plans, including scope, objectives, timing, and resource allocations.

Requirements for Appointment

  • A cumulative service period of at least nine (9) years in a relevant field, three (3) of which must have been at the level of Senior Internal Auditor or a comparable position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, CIA, CISA, CISM, CRISC, or equivalent certification from an accredited examination body.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body in good standing.
  • Completion of a management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
