The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is an independent constitutional body established under Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act No. 14 of 2011. As a National Human Rights Institution, KNCHR plays a crucial role in promoting and protecting human rights, monitoring government compliance, and advocating for policies that uphold fundamental freedoms.
The Commission operates through five directorates: Complaints and Investigations, Research, Advocacy and Outreach, Legal Services, Regional Services, and Corporate Services. With offices in Nairobi, Wajir, Kitale, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nyahururu, KNCHR continues to champion a human rights-centered approach in Kenya.

1. Assistant Director – Internal Audit and Risk (Re-advertisement)
Job Grade: KNCHR 4
Ref: KNCHR/ADM/ADIAR/01/2025
Duty Station: Nairobi (with occasional travel)
Gross Salary: Kshs. 205,850

Job Purpose
The Assistant Director will be responsible for implementing policies, procedures, plans, and strategies related to internal audit and risk management to enhance efficiency and accountability within KNCHR.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise the execution of audit and risk work activities
- Oversee internal audit and risk teams in completing assignments
- Prepare audit reports for management and the Audit Committee
- Ensure compliance with internal auditing policies, procedures, and professional standards
- Prepare Audit Committee papers and report on the status of internal audit recommendations
- Review audits on operational effectiveness in achieving KNCHR’s objectives
- Work with other audit assurance providers to conduct integrated audits
- Conduct risk identification and evaluation to develop a risk register
- Supervise staff performance, mentoring, and professional development
- Manage the division’s budget
2. Legal Officer (Re-advertisement)

Job Purpose
The Legal Officer will support the Legal Services Division in providing legal guidance, representation, and research services for the Commission.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Draft and file pleadings, witness statements, and court documents
- Provide legal opinions and draft contracts and agreements
- Conduct legal research and draft briefs
- Represent the Commission in court proceedings
- Prepare activity reports
3. Research & Compliance Officer (Two Positions)
Job Grade: KNCHR 6

Gross Salary: Kshs. 100,250

Job Purpose
The Research & Compliance Officer will conduct research on human rights issues to support KNCHR’s legislative, policy, and compliance interventions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement research tools
- Conduct research on thematic human rights issues
- Compile and disseminate reports
- Monitor state compliance with regional and international human rights treaties
- Support initiatives for monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities
- Review policies and legislation for human rights compliance
- Generate advisories on human rights matters
- Engage with stakeholders in human rights advocacy
4. Accounts Clerk
Job Grade: KNCHR 8

Duty Station: Nyahururu
Gross Salary: Kshs. 49,193

Job Purpose
The Accounts Clerk will manage books of accounts, bank reconciliations, and expenditure monitoring at the regional office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage office supplies
- Draft quarterly budget forecasts
- Maintain and update cashbooks
- Conduct bank reconciliations
- Track and report financial balances and deficits
- Process payments for goods and services
- Manage records for financial transactions
5. Transport Assistant / Senior Driver
Job Grade: KNCHR 7
Ref: KNCHR/ADM/TA/05/2025
Duty Station: Nairobi (with occasional travel)
Gross Salary: Kshs. 64,614

Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Job Purpose
The Transport Assistant will ensure safe and efficient transportation of KNCHR staff and visitors, maintain the Commission’s fleet, and oversee compliance with transport regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise on fleet maintenance and repairs
- Provide transport services for field activities
- Pick and drop Commission staff and visitors
- Monitor vehicle insurance and service schedules
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform routine service checks
- Ensure proper documentation and log entries for vehicle use
- Adhere to fuel efficiency and defensive driving standards
- Assist in office administration tasks when not on duty
- Supervise drivers and oversee transport operations
