About Plan International Kenya

Plan International Kenya (PIK) has been operational since 1982, focusing on long-term development initiatives. Working closely with local communities and governments, PIK implements programs in various regions, including Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Tharaka-Nithi, Siaya, Kwale, Kilifi, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Tana River, Turkana, and Marsabit.

Under its current Country Strategy (July 2021 – June 2026), PIK aims to eliminate teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence against girls. This mission aligns with four strategic objectives:

  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR): Improving access to SRHR services and information to reduce teenage pregnancies and harmful practices in Kenya.
  • Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence: Ensuring functional protection mechanisms to prevent and respond to all forms of violence and abuse against children and girls.
  • Protecting Girls and Young Women in Crisis and Climate Change Adaptation: Minimizing the impact of disasters on girls, young women, families, and communities.
  • Youth-led and Innovative Partnerships for Job Creation: Building a stronger ecosystem for youth employment and entrepreneurship, particularly for vulnerable young women.

Job Opportunity: Driver (Isiolo)

Job Overview

Plan International Kenya is seeking a reliable and skilled Driver based in Isiolo. The driver will be responsible for implementing project travel plans, transporting staff, goods, and correspondence safely and efficiently, and ensuring the vehicle is well maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation (50%)
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of staff and designated individuals to all areas as instructed.
  • Transport goods securely to required locations as directed.
  • Ensure Plan International assets are safeguarded in the vehicle at all times.
  • Maintain an updated vehicle log book to track usage and fuel consumption.
  • Execute office errands efficiently to facilitate smooth project communications and logistics.
  • Maintain the highest level of conduct on the road, ensuring due care for other road users and pedestrians.
Vehicle Maintenance (30%)
  • Ensure the vehicle remains well-maintained and clean to prevent breakdowns and ensure passenger comfort.
  • Confirm that the vehicle is equipped with valid first aid kits, functional safety belts, a fire extinguisher, valid local licenses, and inspection certificates.
  • Refuel the vehicle using an approved fuel voucher/fuel card and keep the vehicle log sheet updated.
  • Ensure the vehicle is safely parked at the designated location by the end of each working day (no later than 6 PM).
  • Report any vehicle incidents or accidents immediately to the supervisor.
Compliance (10%)
  • Adhere to Plan International’s transport and corporate policies to ensure efficiency and compliance with government regulations.
  • Maintain a valid driving license and present it upon request.
  • Abide by Plan International policies and procedures, including safeguarding children and young people, the Code of Conduct, and mandatory reporting responsibilities.
Safeguarding & Gender Equality (5%)
  • Understand and implement responsibilities under Plan International’s Safeguarding and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) policies, ensuring concerns are reported and managed appropriately.
  • Guide program staff on safeguarding policies to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are embedded in daily project activities.
  • Contribute to Plan International’s global efforts in ensuring safeguarding, including submitting relevant reports and data.
Other Duties (5%)
  • Perform any other assigned duties as required by the supervisor to support the program.

Skills & Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • O’ level certificate holder.
  • Minimum of five (5) years driving experience in a busy working environment.
  • Valid driving license (Class B, C & E).
  • Basic mechanical skills (Grade 3 certification).
  • Valid certificate of good conduct.
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • Defensive driving training.
  • Knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.

Work Location & Reporting Structure

  • Location: Isiolo County.
  • Reports to: Project Coordinator – SDC-GBV Horn of Africa Project.
