Job Title: Lecturer – Hospitality Management
Department: School of Tourism and Hospitality
Reporting to: Dean – School of Tourism and Hospitality
Basic Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing high-quality and relevant learning opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students, with a strong emphasis on contributing to academic research.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students by preparing teaching materials, designing class methodologies or activities, and effectively delivering the curriculum in class.
- Stay updated with developments within the academic discipline or professional practice of hospitality management and incorporate this knowledge into curriculum content, design, and delivery.
- Ensure learning materials, content, and methods of delivery align with defined learning objectives and undergo regular review for improvement.
- Conduct timely student assessments, including preparation, moderation, administration, and marking of examinations.
- Guide undergraduate and graduate students in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
- Maintain accurate student records, including registers, reports, and assessment records, in the Academic Management System.
- Identify and secure funding opportunities through grant writing to enhance the school’s research portfolio.
- Publish research papers and actively participate in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
- Establish and foster research linkages internally, nationally, and internationally to contribute to the school’s research objectives.
- Undertake administrative duties as needed, including leadership of academic programs, membership in various committees, and contributions to school management.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral degree qualification from an accredited and recognized university.
- A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with at least two (2) years at the lecturer level.
- Supervision of at least two (2) postgraduate students to completion since the last promotion.
- A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points, with at least twenty-four (24) from peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
Experience:
- At least five (5) years of active research experience with evidence of ongoing research activities.
- At least five (5) years of experience in graduate-level supervision.
