The Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi is looking for: consular/administrative officer
The Embassy in Nairobi represents Sweden in Kenya, Somalia, the Seychelles and the Comoros as well as at the UN agencies in Nairobi. The Embassy works to promote democratic and peaceful development and deepened relations between Sweden and the region. An extensive area of work for the Embassy is development cooperation in Kenya, Somalia and regionally in sub-Saharan Africa. Increased trade exchange is a high priority. The Embassy processes a large number of Schengen visas and provides consular services to Swedish citizens in Kenya. The Embassy has approximately 80 employees.
The position is a local position with placement at the embassy’s administrative section. The position is limited to one year with the possibility of extension. Entry as soon as possible, or by agreement.
The duties mainly include:
- Handling consular matters, mainly passport matters and coordination numbers.
- If necessary, represent the embassy at EU meetings, meetings with representatives from other embassies, Kenyan authorities and other external meetings.
- Some reporting and writing of texts for internal procedures in English and Swedish.
- Other duties based on what the embassy’s operations require.
The pace of work at the embassy is high and demands results. The many external contacts and the complexity of the issues place great demands on the ability to cooperate and good judgment.
Salary and other conditions according to the embassy’s regulations for local employees, “Terms and Conditions for locally employed staff”, which means that you have local health insurance and no paid travel to/from Sweden.
We are looking for you who are a Swedish citizen and have good knowledge of Swedish and English. You hold an academic degree with a relevant focus for the work tasks. Experience from similar work at another Swedish authority is an advantage.
Swedish citizenship and a passed registry check are prerequisites for employment in the position.
We see that you are already resident in Kenya as the embassy does not pay for work or residence permits.
