Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the university’s security and safety department.
- Act as the primary security advisor to the University Management Board.
- Formulate, plan, and control the departmental budget to ensure efficient resource utilization.
- Develop and implement security policies aligned with the university’s objectives.
- Create and execute a strategic plan for the security department, ensuring the highest standards of safety and security.
- Promote and instill a strong safety culture within the institution.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 quality standards within the security department.
- Address and oversee all security-related concerns affecting both staff and students.
- Manage the university’s security intelligence system to mitigate potential risks.
- Conduct investigations related to staff and student disciplinary matters as directed by the University Management Board.
- Attend and actively participate in security meetings across all campuses.
- Plan and organize continuous training programs for security personnel to enhance their capabilities.
- Execute periodic security surveys and risk assessments for all university campuses.
- Collaborate with external security agencies to strengthen the university’s security framework.
- Handle any other security-related duties as assigned by the Vice-Chancellor or University Management.
Qualifications and Skills:
- KCSE grade C+ (plus) or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or any Social Science from a recognized university.
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Police Science from a recognized university, with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Formal training in Investigation and Security Management Systems.
- Must have held the position of Chief Inspector of Police or an equivalent rank, with at least 5 years of experience.
- A valid Basic First Aid Certificate with proven hands-on experience in first aid.
- A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police.
