Job Purpose
As a Legal Manager, you will play a key role in providing legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks within the company. This position requires strategic legal insight, regulatory compliance expertise, and a proactive approach to dispute resolution and contract management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice to the Asset Management Company on all matters related to the law.
- Ensure full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Offer guidance on the interpretation, impact, and implications of relevant laws affecting company operations.
- Provide strategic legal counsel on business initiatives, including product development and risk management.
- Maintain productive engagement with regulatory agencies, such as the Capital Markets Authority and Retirement Benefits Authority.
- Align the legal department’s objectives with the company’s strategic goals.
- Respond to demand letters and proactively work to resolve disputes before litigation.
- Monitor and mitigate client complaints to prevent escalation into legal disputes.
- Refer litigation cases to external legal counsel from the company’s panel and oversee legal proceedings.
- Coordinate with external lawyers to ensure proper handling of court cases.
- Work closely with company staff to gather required documentation and witnesses for legal proceedings.
- Negotiate, draft, and review legal documents and contracts.
- Manage the contract execution process efficiently.
- Draft and review sensitive communications to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
- Exercise delegated authority in accordance with the approved delegated authority matrix.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking an individual with the following qualifications and experience:
Minimum Qualifications
- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, with a current practicing certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
- Diploma in Law (KSL) from the Kenya School of Law.
Experience & Skills Required
- At least 6 years post-admission experience, with at least 4 years in a corporate legal function.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of financial markets, financial laws, and regulations.
- Familiarity with capital markets and asset/fund management legal frameworks is an added advantage.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply legal concepts in a corporate setting.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple legal matters and prioritize effectively.
- Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation, drafting, and management.
