Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning and Implementation
- Work closely with the Project Officer to review project implementation tools, including Detailed Implementation Plans (DIP) and budgets, to enhance project success.
- Assist in coordinating sector integration interventions to ensure holistic implementation of Livelihood & Resilience (L&R) initiatives.
- Participate in the preparation of work plans and budgets specific to county activities.
- Ensure compliance with project processes, standards, and guidelines, integrating cross-cutting themes where applicable.
2. Technical Support
- Support the Project Officer in timely project implementation.
- Mobilize farmers for equipping in long-term resilience building through risk-reducing assets such as zai pits, terraces, sunken beds, and farm ponds.
- Promote drought-tolerant crops and indexed-based crop insurance to help farmers safeguard their development gains from climate shocks.
- Strengthen Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) to establish risk reserves through savings.
- Facilitate training on insurance, financial literacy, health, and sustainable value chain development initiatives.
- Identify opportunities that align with and enhance the project’s overarching goal.
- Ensure child safeguarding and sponsorship management integration in L&R interventions where relevant.
3. Quality Assurance, Monitoring & Evaluation, Reporting, and Documentation
- Document lessons learned and project impact to guide future implementation.
- Organize and conduct county-level workshops to share best practices with relevant stakeholders.
- Support project assessments and learning processes.
4. Capacity Building
- Mobilize and sensitize the community for empowerment and sustainability.
- Assist in building farmers’ capacity on VSLAs, financial literacy, insurance, health, and nutrition.
- Promote climate-smart agricultural practices such as soil and water conservation, good agronomic practices, post-harvest management, and livestock management (apiculture and poultry).
- Strengthen community resource persons’ capacity to spearhead project implementation.
- Ensure training sessions meet required standards to reinforce desired behaviors and practices.
5. Advocacy, Engagement, Partnership, and Networking
- Represent the organization in key stakeholder forums at Ward, Sub-County, and County levels.
- Actively participate in county-level technical working groups related to L&R policy forums.
- Mobilize community participation in project interventions.
- Conduct regular learning and reflection events with partners and stakeholders.
6. Data Management and Project Monitoring
- Oversee farmer register validation, tracking, and database updates through the Last Mile Mobile Solution (LMMS).
- Conduct seasonal crop monitoring, insurance enrollment tracking, and data collection in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Support the development of Project Designs and Annual Operational Plans (4D Matrices, DIPs, Budgets) to ensure financial utilization aligns with acceptable limits.
- Assist in developing and tracking quality reports (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual) and documenting key lessons and success stories.
7. Stakeholder Coordination and Learning
- Organize and facilitate regular peer-to-peer learning meetings with government representatives, target communities, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure efficient coordination with stakeholders in the L&R sector to promote effective project monitoring and documentation.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in relief or development Livelihood & Resilience/Food Security projects with a focus on Village Savings and Loaning Groups and Climate-Smart Crop Production.
- Strong English communication skills (oral and written).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to facilitate L&R training sessions for building staff and community capacity.
- Ability to ride a motorbike with a valid license.
- Ability to speak the local dialect.
- Knowledge/experience in crop insurance (an added advantage).
- Must be a local resident of Makueni County.
