Position: Construction Assistant
As a Construction Assistant at Habitat for Humanity Kenya, you will play a crucial role in supporting the construction team to deliver high-quality housing projects efficiently and effectively. You will work closely with the Construction Manager and other team members to ensure that all construction activities are executed smoothly, safely, and within budget. This role requires a hands-on approach, attention to detail, and a passion for contributing to community development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site Preparation and Coordination:
- Assist in preparing construction sites by clearing debris, setting up materials, and ensuring all necessary equipment is available.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely delivery of construction materials.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized worksite.
- Construction Support and Supervision:
- Provide support in various construction activities, including masonry, carpentry, roofing, and finishing work.
- Supervise laborers and volunteers on-site, providing guidance and ensuring quality workmanship.
- Monitor construction progress and report any issues or delays to the Construction Manager.
- Quality Assurance and Safety Compliance:
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure that construction work meets established quality standards.
- Enforce safety guidelines and procedures to minimize accidents and injuries on site.
- Ensure the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all workers and volunteers.
- Resource Management:
- Manage construction materials efficiently to reduce wastage and ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain inventory records and coordinate the procurement of additional materials as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Keep accurate records of daily construction activities, including labor and material usage.
- Assist in preparing progress reports and updating project timelines.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with project teams, including architects, engineers, and community members, to achieve project goals.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including beneficiaries, to ensure their needs and expectations are met.
