Position Overview

Job Title: Material Requirements Planner (MRP)
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Posted On: February 21, 2025

The Material Requirements Planner (MRP) will be responsible for managing and optimizing the flow of raw materials, components, and packaging materials that are essential for production. This role is crucial to ensuring that our manufacturing operations run smoothly and that production schedules are met consistently. The successful candidate will utilize Microsoft Dynamics NAV (NAV) to maintain and update our Material Requirements Plan (MRP), ensuring real-time accuracy and aligning material availability with production needs.

In this role, you will work closely with Production Planners, Demand Planners, the Procurement Team, and various other departments. Your primary focus will be to develop and manage the material planning process, coordinate purchase orders, monitor inventory levels, and collaborate with suppliers to guarantee timely deliveries. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a fast-paced, multi-country environment where your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our manufacturing operations.

Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

1. Material Requirements Planning (MRP) & ERP Management

  • Developing and Maintaining MRP:
You will be responsible for developing and continuously updating the Material Requirements Plan using Microsoft Dynamics NAV. This involves inputting and maintaining critical data such as material lead times, minimum order quantities (MOQs), and safety stock levels. Your meticulous attention to detail will ensure that all information is accurate and up to date, providing a reliable basis for production planning.
  • Ensuring Material Availability:
A key aspect of the role is to ensure that all raw materials, components, and packaging supplies are available to meet production schedules. This means carefully monitoring demand versus supply and proactively adjusting purchase orders and inventory targets to prevent production delays.
  • Data Accuracy and ERP Integration:
Your role will require you to ensure real-time data accuracy within Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Regular updates to the system will involve verifying and adjusting material lead times, updating inventory levels, and ensuring that all data reflects the current operational realities. This is crucial for maintaining a seamless integration between planning and execution.
  • Collaboration with Planning Teams:
You will work in close collaboration with Production Planners and Demand Planners to ensure that material availability aligns perfectly with the Master Production Schedule (MPS). This teamwork is vital to synchronize production outputs with material procurement, ensuring that manufacturing targets are met without interruption.

2. Procurement Planning & Supplier Coordination

  • Coordinating with the Procurement Team:
You will serve as the primary point of contact for following up on purchase orders. Ensuring that orders are processed correctly and that materials are delivered on time is a critical component of this role. You will collaborate with the Procurement Team to address any issues or delays and work together to resolve them promptly.
  • Supplier Performance Management:
Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers is essential. You will collaborate with both the Procurement and Quality Teams to monitor supplier performance, ensuring that all deliveries meet BURN Manufacturing’s quality standards and adhere to agreed lead times. This involves tracking order confirmations, shipping updates, and delivery schedules meticulously.
  • Order Tracking and Follow-Up:
The role requires you to keep an updated record of open purchase orders (POs). This tracking process is vital for ensuring that all materials are accounted for and that there are no unexpected delays in the supply chain. Your proactive approach will help in identifying potential issues before they escalate.

3. Inventory Optimization & Risk Management

  • Defining and Monitoring Safety Stock Levels:
One of your key responsibilities will be to establish and monitor safety stock levels. This is crucial to prevent stockouts while avoiding the pitfalls of excess inventory. Your expertise will be instrumental in balancing these critical factors to support uninterrupted production.
  • Conducting Regular Inventory Controls:
Accurate inventory control is paramount. You will be responsible for performing regular cycle counts and stock reconciliation to ensure that physical inventory matches the records in our ERP system. Any discrepancies will be investigated and resolved promptly to maintain the integrity of our inventory data.
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation:
In a dynamic manufacturing environment, risks such as raw material shortages, excess inventory, or obsolete stock can have significant impacts. You will be tasked with identifying these risks early and developing strategic action plans to mitigate them. This might involve recommending changes in procurement strategy or optimizing stock levels based on demand forecasts.
  • Optimizing Warehouse Operations:
Working closely with warehouse and logistics teams, you will help optimize storage practices and material flow. This includes ensuring that inventory is managed using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles and that storage practices support efficient material handling. Your recommendations will help improve overall warehouse efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Handling Slow-Moving or Obsolete Inventory:
A critical aspect of inventory management is identifying slow-moving or obsolete stock. You will analyze trends and work with relevant teams to recommend action plans, whether that involves reallocating resources, discounting slow-moving products, or planning for the safe disposal of obsolete materials.

Skills and Experience Required

For this role, the ideal candidate should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business, Engineering, or a related field is required. This foundational knowledge will be critical to understanding and managing the complexities of material planning and supply chain management.
  • Professional Experience:
A minimum of 4+ years of experience in Material Planning, Procurement Planning, or Supply Chain Management is essential. This experience should include hands-on involvement with ERP systems and material planning tools, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
  • Technical Expertise:
Proficiency in ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Dynamics NAV, is a must. In addition, the candidate should be comfortable working with MRP planning tools and be highly skilled in using analytical software such as Excel, Power BI, or similar data analytics platforms.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
The ability to analyze material demand and supply data, identify trends, and optimize procurement strategies is crucial. Strong analytical skills will enable you to make data-driven decisions that enhance the efficiency of our supply chain.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
Excellent communication skills are required to effectively coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and logistics. The role demands a high level of collaboration and the ability to work well with diverse teams to achieve common goals.
  • Detail Orientation and Organizational Skills:
A meticulous approach to managing data and schedules is essential. You will be responsible for ensuring accuracy in material planning, order placement, and inventory tracking, which requires exceptional organizational skills.
  • Adaptability and Proactivity:
In a fast-paced manufacturing environment, the ability to adapt to changing production schedules and supplier constraints is vital. You should be proactive in adjusting material plans and ready to tackle challenges as they arise.
  • Technical Savvy:
Being comfortable with technology and digital tools is an advantage. Your ability to navigate ERP systems and utilize data-driven planning tools will be a key factor in your success in this role.

Qualified female candidates are encouraged to apply.
